Logic Question

Post by mikehalloran »

I use Logic for one purpose and that is to open GarageBand and Logic files. I then export them into forms that I can import into DP where I am comfortable and edit to gnat's whisker. For the time being, I've not had another use. I'm good with that.

I have Logic 9 on my iMac and my G4 (I don't know I'd ever use it there but you never know). I also recently upgraded to Logic X Pro.

My question: Do I need to keep Logic Studio 9 on my iMac? Are there things that X Pro cannot do or older files that it won't open?

I'll keep Main Stage 2 and Compressor installed for the time being. Otherwise, LS 9 is quite a hog for disk space.

I use Logic 9 for much the same reason, to convert work from composers who sketch in GB. I check this list now and then to see what's going on with Logic.

It doesn't seem that there is any reason to keep V9 if you have X from what I've seen here. But if you post the question there, you'll likely get an answer from real experts (e.g. Eli)

I'm interested to hear what you think of Logic X, and whether it is any easier to work with.

You can import GB6 and GB10 files into Logic Pro X. If you have all the versions on the same computer then by deleting Logic Pro 9 you could lose some Legacy Sounds and Plug-ins that are available within LPX. I still have GB6, GB10, Logic Exp, LP9 and LPX on my computer with no plans to delete any of them.

I could be wrong about that so I may have misspoke. As long as you've downloaded all of the Additional Content you may be fine. But if you were to ever lose a legacy channel strip setting etc. it would be easier to copy it from the older version on your computer.
