ADAT Selector/Splitter

Post by wonder »

I have a HearBack system that takes ADAT. I have two ways of feeding my headphone mixes when I'm either tracking simple small sessions or larger full band sessions.

I send ADAT from my Tascam DM24 to the Hearback and I also send it from my 2408 for using CueMix.

Is there a box that takes 2 ADAT input signals and has a selector to which ADAT input gets sent to the output?
Sort of like an A/B switch but for ADAT 8 channel lightpipe.

Anyone know of such a thing?

A box with a manual switch? There's the discontinued M-Audio Digipatch.

You already have a device that can switch between multiple banks of ADAT-8 in to ADAT-8 out, however. It's your 2408. It will do exactly what you want in stand-alone mode or when connected to the PCI-424 card.

When connected to the 424, it shouldn't be hard to set up multiple CueMix profiles that do exactly what you want.

that's something like what I'm looking for.

I wonder if there's a 2x1 box somewhere out there. I just can't crawl back in the back of my gear every time I wanna switch.

Looks like a passive optical routing device... the proverbial (smoke and) mirrors. Should work fine.

Yes. Just a passive switcher.

I ordered one. We'll see.

Did the optical switch work for 8 channel ADAT? There's a surprisingly low amount of info on the ADAT compatibility.

Big love

It did.
Although I eventually ditched it because I wasn't using it much if at all. And I think a couple times it didn't sync very well.
I yanked it a while ago and have almost forgotten about it.
