Re: Our monitors
Genelec 1031As have been my one point of consistency for the last 20 years. I insist on them in every mix room I go to. For me it is the perfect balance of an overall sound I can understand, and that I actually enjoy listening to.
I did consider the 8000 series, which sound very good also, but they have a rear facing bass port which doesn't work in some rooms - or if you want them close to a wall.
I was lucky to find an immaculate pair of 1031As on eBay for my own studio a few years ago.
I also have a surround system using 5 (or 6) 1029s with a sub. Switching from the stereo system to the surround system is very compatible.
Cheers!

Re: Our monitors
I've been using Event 20/20bas monitors for almost 20 years.... first the originals, and now a set of v3's I replaced them with last year. I know the character of these boxes well so I get good results. (I have always admired those Genelecs 1031A's, though.)
I'm also checking mixes on a pair of M-Audio A/V 40s (they sound like a pretty good television), a set of Sony MDR-7509 headphones, Apple earbuds (for the iGame music) and a cheap Creative Labs device.. A bean-shaped plastic Bluetooth stereo thing (if you can call two speakers 7 inches on center "stereo"). I'll dump an MP3 mix to my phone and beam it to the Bluetooth speakers, and if that sounds good, my work here is done.

Re: Our monitors
Yamaha NS-10M Studio, powered by a Hafler P3000; plus a Blue Sky Sub8 subwoofer; all fed by a Benchmark DAC-1 converter.
Every time I've tried any other monitors, I came crawling back to the NS10s begging them for forgiveness... now I don't even try anymore!
Both the Hafler amp and the Sub8 are fed directly by a Benchmark DAC-1, so the NS10Ms are completely bypassing the Sub8's internal crossover (it messes up the NS10s insanely good transient response.) The manual crossover on the sub8 is set to 120 Hz at -6dB.
I also use Sennheiser HD600 headphones (that I've owned for more than 15 years; by now they must have thousands of hours of playback, and are thus very well "burned in") as "the other perspective", fed by the awesome headphone amp in the Benchmark DAC-1.
Plus a lot of acoustic treatment over the years. Room is pretty damn perfect now, if I do say so myself - thanks to years of trial and error, and lots of help from the awesome Steven Klein (http://www.soundcontrolroom.com)

Re: Our monitors
After long research, testing and checking out I felt in love with my PSI 17M combined with the A225M - Sub.
I got my own mixing-room and it is acoustical optimized.
They are precise, can handle fast transients at ease and it is also fun, working with them. For some clients it was not easy to get used to them so we installed a pair of Neumann KH120´s which are more smooth and musical.
Cheers, Frederic

Adam A7 nearfield's. I also just got some Bose Companion 2's (version 3) connected directly to the Mac mini (which has a built in speaker about the size of a quarter) for when I don't want to turn everything on. Those things are amazing for their size.
Anyone try the Behritones yet? Powered modernized version of the Auratones. Look pretty authentic to the originals.

Re: Our monitors
Looks like there is quite a big spread... How about acoustic treatment. How many of you work in dedicated spaces? I for one have been moving a lot but I do bring all sorts of screens with me and four big cylinders of rockwool to put in the corners. I do some basic measuring and tweak things while listening to a couple of tracks.

Re: Our monitors
No acoustic treatment here. Not by choice, but I need to find something that still keeps the "look" of a normal family room which I took over about 25 years ago! (It's the first room one sees when entering the house.)

Re: Our monitors
Okay... Really slumming it compared to yous guys. Behringer Truth 3030As, and to be honest, I love 'em. That said, I have a pretty well treated space, which probably makes more difference than the boxes.
Obviously I'm not going to be holding any "Booty Raves" with them any time soon, but after I spent a few months getting used to them, I was really happy with their translation.
Oh, also a Fostex 6301b for Auratone-like listening.
For my treatment, well, I'm renting an A-frame cabin that I use for my studio (I sleep there too). Almost no parallel walls! I slung traps up spanning the rafters for the entire run of the house (4" OC703), some of them trapping a huge air space because of the extreme angle then the walls on the studio side of my house are covered with hung 2" OC703. Also the 8" Cotten futon in the corner doesn't hurt. Once I got rid of the weird radial standing waves (A frames are nice but strange) it's been a dream. I even got my Nate Berkus on and did a little interior decorating with them: alternating red and black batts. Very neo-deco if I do say so myself.
