Same setup here. I can't imagine using any thing else at this point.

Interesting, Robert and Phil.

The A7 was set in stone for me for quite some time. Very good from what I heard during a lengthy research process. If the Opals hadn't appeared when they did, and had I not calculated that I'd have enough years in the bank to save for 'em whilst I sort out a bunch of other aspects of my music room, I'd have been all over 'em and I'm confident I'd have still had 'em today.

I just upgraded my great-bang-for-buck JBL LSR 2300 series 5" mains and 10" sub with the even greater-bang-for-bigger-buck Neumann KH120A's (no sub this time; theirs is $2700, 28" deep, and more for surround sound applications than standard mixing/mastering), during a too-good-to-be-true Labour Day weekend sale.

Holy cow -- these things are as true to balanced and natural as I've heard in my entire life (for small near-field two-way monitors, that is). Way better than I thought even from my isolated listening room experiences over the last few years (including with the earlier Klein & Hummel versions).

They're HEAVY, but smaller than the JBL's. Really professionally designed and built. Manufactured in Ireland, which surprised me. The documentation is very thorough and guides you through proper setup and settings of the various filters based on your specific environment and working distance etc.

So glad I went for these instead of some of the other under-$2500 options out there. I hesitated a bit due to comments here on others (no one had compared though), reviews of other models, and some GS BS.

I have thrown every genre imaginable at them, and they excel in all categories, as opposed to "just being good for classical". They also helped me take my album masters to yet another level of excellence. So much details, but not at all fatiguing either!

I use a pair of Genelec 1032As with or without a 1092 sub (which has a bypass switch) for my A monitors and Westlake BBSM4s as my nearfields. (Also have a little Behritone for checking mono and as a trash speaker.) Have had amp challenges with the Westlakes, but have a new Rotel coming in two weeks that should solve that. Love both the Genelecs and Westlakes and am using an Apogee Quartet to switch between them. Also have a fair amount of room treatment—mostly Auralex—in a quasi-LEDE configuration. The 1032s are about the biggest speakers my room can handle, but I like them for the music I'm presently working on, and being able to use them with or without the sub is a real plus.

If I could have just one small set, it would be Genelec 1030As, which are amazing. If the sky was the limit? Westlake BBSM12s sofit-mounted in a great room with Electrocompaniet monoblocks driving them. (Dream on...)

Did anyone else notice the little pre-ad for Neumann KH805 subwoofer in Mix Magazine this month?

NOTHING shows up if I do a search, or even at the Neumann website!

I have to guess this is going to be a cheaper subwoofer "for the rest of us" who don't do surround sound or home entertainment and cinema.

If it's under $2000, I'll probably buy it, because it's important to know what's going on "down there" even though the KH120's are amazingly balanced and detailed. Still, they cut off below 50 Hz.

Interesting; you have to type the space, which I deliberately left out as that usually trips up most searches. Kinda funny, as it means the rebranding isn't a huge advance over the clumsy K+H moniker with product names that might be numbers or might be letters (i.e. "O" or "0"). At any rate, it's a recent site update as I have a printout from early September that doesn't list it (I checked when I bought the KH120's, to see if I also wanted a sub).

So this one is 20x19x30 in inches, which is more manageable than the huge KH810 or even huger KH870. Too tired at this hour to try a complicated search term like this one that fails most searches due to the terms being too short. Am interested to see the price, and wondering if I yet again lost a promotional opportunity due to absent marketing.

Maybe I can be grandfathered in, having just bought the KH120A's.

Let's hope so.

With the 810 street $ around $2,700, it will be interesting to see if its sibling does the Limbo under the $2K price point.

"How low can you go?"

I'm going to guess that the official product release announcement (and available listings) for the KH805 subwoofer will happen at the end of this month at the AES Show in LA.

Too bad it's no longer in SF on alternate years (it usually rotates west/east coast and the east coast event is now almost always in NYC). I really learned a lot at the seminars in particular, and met a lot of major players in the industry (including Bob Moog before he passed). Everyone was so warm and welcoming compared to most computer engineering conferences -- what a contrast!

See, that's what happens when they take it away from us. I can no longer remember which year is east coast vs. west coast.

We've lost a lot of greats in the past few years; many of them local (including Dolby).

Anyway, it sure was a great place for checking out monitors too; unlike the noisy NAMM Show.

Sorry, I added to the confusion. AES is in LA in 2016, not 2017.

Finally, a product page for the new Neumann KH805 subwoofer:

http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/ ... fgodBDkGkw

Looks quite interesting, and a good match for KH120's.

I'm too tired to measure available space or read the specs for connectivity and other aspects; it has some interesting features that I don't understand upon cursory examination (right channel mode).
