low budget recording?

Post by surrenderband »

on thursday i am asked to record finger style classia guitar (all by itself). i have dp4.12 and a 828mk2. i have a beta 87 and the acoustic guitar plugs in direct as well. i also am in a regular office room. any tips on whether to use the mic, stand against a wall, anything to make this as good as it can be?

Go ahead and use both the mic and the pickup. You may end up using both to some degree in the end.

I would not get too close to walls or corners, you want to avoid and nearby reflects because they will cause comb filtering that will be impossible to remove later.

If you've got time you should run some recording tests with the mic in different locations to see what sounds the bets. If you don't have time then you ought to put the mic about eight inches away from the front of the guitar and position it at the 12th fret. It's hard to go too far wrong there.
