YAMAHA 01V96I

Post by anamorphic »

My beloved Yamaha ProMix01 finally bit the dust so I got today's iteration; the 01V96i. It was/is a MIDI controlled mixer with flying faders and two built-in FX processors.

All is as was before, but I had to reprogram all of the MIDI controllers because Yamaha changed the default set. All done now, but there doesn't seem to be a way to MIDI trigger a specific FX patch (Hall Reverb, Delay, etc) like the ProMix01. On the ProMix you'd send controller 20 with a MIDI value that was specific for each FX preset. I can't find that option on the 01V96i.

Anybody have this mixer/issue/solution?

Thanks!

I wonder if you could somehow use a MIDI event to trigger one of the USER BUTTONS to call a new effect? (I'm not near that rig or manual).

I figured it out: You use SysEx to call up effect presets.

In the DP Event list, insert a SysEx, then open it. Then trigger the effect from the 01V96i and it records the correct string as an event.

Whew!

Did it take you a full two years to figure it out? :D

Glad you got it sorted. I remember thinking how with a nearby computer, I could have probably had that Yamaha mixer remote controlled with an iPad-- except the channel gain trims-- which is just as well.

Sometimes you have to walk away from a problem to get a fresh perspective. This mixer is soooo complicated I think I was overwhelmed at first. But after a couple years (!) the answer jumped out at me.
