Mic Pre S/PDIF Work with Mk1 2408?

Postby tubanick » Wed Jan 27, 2010 5:55 pm

Hi all.

Been a long time!

Resurrected my old G3/os9, AudioDesk 1, 2408 Mk1.
Current goal is to improve the signal path.
(Besides. I really should return my friends ART MP ;) )

My understanding is that the Mk1 signal path from S/PDIF to HD is 24 bit.

The 2408 is old and I don't know if there's been any changes
in S/PDIF (specs? format?) so....

Anyone know if the S/PDIF on these types of preamps:

will work with the Mk1 2408?

Thanks!

Neil.

I don´t see why there would be any problem with what you want to do.
I have used the 2408 MK1 , 2 and 3 in the same setup with SP/DIF gear connected to them. I´d give it a shot without hesitation.

I used to use the DPS II with my Motu 828 MkII and the only thing I can say about using the SPDIF input on the MOTU was that I had to set up the clock to sync to the SPDIF and use the ART as the Master clock. It was the only way it worked right. My ART unit did give me some problems, one sides LED doesn't work and the Digital outs ended up being a little scratchy and one side cut in and out. I'm not using it right now, but it does have some decent mic presets for different instruments.

Peace,
Billy

Thanks Radiogal and Billy.

Seems it should work with my Mk1 2408/324.

But... even w/Cuemix, 324 latency seems higher than hoped and can't trust that pops/clicks won't crop up again, computer/OS is old (wah wah wah) so....

Seems I need to upgrade.

I wonder if fastest G4/early G5 + Reaper + 10.4 would work with my Mk1? I see OSX 324 drivers on MOTU site.

Help appreciated,

Neil.

If you are really using CueMix to monitor, you will not get any perceivable latency. CueMix is a hardware digital mixer built in the 324. Switching computers and/or software will not impact the nominal processing delay CueMix operates with.

I'm VERY late on this post but I want to point out that the PCI-324 card didn't have Cuemix DSP. The onboard DSP Cuemix came along with the PCI-424 card.
