BPM Update

Hey Guys,

I've talked to MOTU Support about pending updates for BPM and was told that the clip window crash and other issues have been fixed. They are just waiting on a word from the developers on a release. I hope they release it soon. We are fast approaching the 1 year mark of the release of 1.5!

MOTU are probably just waiting for the accounts department to let them know how much they can charge for the 1.6 upgrade. :D

That's interesting, but is that the only thing that they've done in the update in almost a year?

MOTU have behaved in such a thoroughly unprofessional manner over updating BPM 1.5 that nothing would surprise me. We might never ever get an update, or we might be asked for substantial money to upgrade to version 2. Who knows...

The most unlikely scenario is that they put out a 1.5.1 version that improves the program and is downloadable for free.

Well.. We are into August now and no sign of an update. Olivier, one of the developers, replied over at KVR with this last month:

"marsrock wrote:
Any updates on the M5 release Olivier? We are now approaching the middle of July..

Sometimes stuff takes more time that you would have though.
(making demo, website, manual)

Sorry about that.

Still it allows us to perfect the software in the meantime ----"

Previously, Olivier stated that the BPM update would follow the MachFIVE 3 release. He also stated that the core engine of BPM will benefit from the MachFIVE 3 development. Sounds like when we do get the update it will be very nice. Just hope it is a free update since we've already paid for the 1.5 update which isn't fully functional.

Here is the latest from Olivier from one of my posts over at KVR.

"Hi,

* Website, manual, audio demos and stuff like that are being finished for M5v3.
It shouldn't be much longer but unfortunately I can't say more as I have no control on this. The manual is going to be huge FWIW.

* BPM update will follow after the M5 release. The bugs you mention are fixed in our in-house build. We just need to check regression bugs as soon as M5 is released.
CPU optims and stability improvements has been made during M5 development on the engine so BPM will benefits from those as well.

* UVIWorkstation update is currently in progress. We are quite happy so far with the result. Scripted instruments with custom UI will make their appearance.

Good info but he still can't give any ETA. Sounds like some very nice improvements.

He also stated that BPM will become 64bit and CPU issues are addressed too.

Hey - better late than never, right? Although...why do I have a nasty feeling that the update isn't going to be free of charge? Hope I'm wrong.

Because it will be ilok 2? Most new software comming out with 64 bit on ilok will be moving to this so I can see maybe needing to pay for the ilok if you don't already have one. Only other reason is if there is new content DVD's.

We are getting closer. BPM 1.5.1 beta will be going out next week per the developers.

It would be really cool to see some fixes to these long standing bugs, I was quite put off after installing the update to find the window clip crash...made BPM useless as a sampler for me.

But I know they devs are working hard on MachFive so hopefully we see some goodies from that since they share the UVI engine.

Saw a post in on KVRAudio from the UVI developer and he said it was in beta right now. It will include all of the optimizations and fixed that are included in the Mach5 V3. Shouldn't be too long now.
