Soundbite tempo related time stretch

Post by supersonic »

Hi everyone

I am sure it is right under my I but nonetheless I have not found it. I have a soundbite with a tempo 60 that I want to run it precisely at tempo 80. I might add that the sequence is a move so the actual tempo of it is irrelevant. I don't want to adapt to the sequence tempo. The scale time and scale tempos won't do that as far as i can tell and I found nothing else. Any ideas?

Could you just scale by 75%?

I could but I gave that change just as an example. There will also be times where the change won't be a simple %. It is also not very intuitive. I want to be able to change the tempo by simply putting in the numbers.

Create or copy a new sequence in "Chunks". Set it to 60 bpm. Load/drop in your 60 bpm soundbite. Change the tempo to 80 ppm. In Audio menu, select "Adjust soundbites to sequence tempo".

When it finishes processing, I would go one further step (though I'm not sure you absolutely must)- select the soundbite and "Merge Audio", so you have a clean new soundbite, with the new tempo embedded in it.

Then you can go back into your working sequence, drop it in from soundbites window, and then even delete the sequence you used to convert, if you want.

That is what I've been doing. I was just thinking if there is a way to do it right in the same sequence

Re: Melodyne...
Melodyne 4 can't erase 'completely' just like that...
There will remain some overtones - depending on the material.
Confirmed by Celemony...
There are workarounds that need deep editing in Melodyne.
The tempo and pitch stuff is awesome though
I had to do some basic snips in DP and continue in Melodyne
Best

Yes.

I thought the OP just wanted to change tempo and not erase anything.

The inability to stretch by bpm is a serious over site in the programming of DP. The same dumb over site existed in Izotope RX and I had to bug them to fix that too. Eventually, iZotope added the ability to stretch in terms of bpm. Sometimes I feel the programmers in software companies get a bit “removed” from actual music production, and fail to “see” what is really needed, when they develop a new feature. I was very dissappointed when I too found out one must do such silly work-arounds to adjust via exact bpm in DP. What more logical a need could a user have but to adjust via bpm? A no brainer, and yet, DP can’t do it=disconnect between programmers and reality.
I am sure MOTU will eventually address this. In the meantime, it’s work around city.

can't you just use the little hand tool in the upper corner of the soundbite to stretch your audio, hold the command key and it will snap to grid and get you stretched to exact beat markers at the new tempo.

It might be nice if that is possible. But it also sounds a bit “hokey”. Musicians aren’t always synced up to their DAW when working on a piece of audio. Also seems like there is room for error when using graphic based grids when one wants to be precise in the LANGUAGE of music... BPM.
Not a bad thought from you though Mike. It’s just a bit dumb that we have to even work around things like this, no matter how “elegant” the solution.
Imagine if we still had to do these type workarounds to work in quarter notes? In the past, old hardware required math to translate things into musical terms. Note the word “past”. We are NOT in the past, we are in an age where there is no need for workarounds to work in the language of music. The language of music in this case, is BPM. Ever been at a band practice where the drummer announced he would be speeding up the song by 4.237 %?

I see your point with the %4.237 aspect of the situation, but the hand tool with command is how I always handle these things.
