How do I export a Deinterleaved wav file in DP9.5?

Post by goosetunes »

When I export a stereo mix as an interleaved bwav, I create a stereo file without issue. But I have some network deliverables that call for stereo mixes to be exported as L and R mono files. These L and R files when paired need to playback as a stereo track. How do I accomplish this in DP 9.5? I've tried using the export function and bounce to disk, but both methods produce two mono files that when paired playback as a mono track, not a stereo track. For the record, I'm panning channel 1 to the left for the L track and channel 2 to the right for the R track..... what am I missing??

I don't get it.

I see the option of bouncing to AIFF or WAV interleaved AND Deinterleaved under the File Format setting in the BTD window... Is that what you're using? It should give you your stereo mix in 2 distinct mono channels (left and right).

Are you panning both resulting files to fully left and right, so they sound stereo when importing them back into DP? Otherwise, they will sound mono...

I don't get it either. Yes, I've tried the BTD option and selected bwav deinterleaved, but the two mono files this produces don't form a stereo pair. When I reimport them back into DP, even though they are two mono files panned hard left and right, they playback in mono. I've confirmed this with the izotope iSight plugin.... the sound field is mono, not stereo. Any suggestions?

Are you dropping the files into 2 tracks and panning them center?

What happens when you pan them hard R/L?

I'm importing each mono file back into DP and placing each on its own mono track and panning hard L/R.... playback is in mono. Needs to be stereo. What am I missing?

Problem solved. Just needed to rename the two mono files so that DP would import them as the L and R of a stereo pair and not automatically remerge them. Thank you Magic Dave!

Did anyone mention the "Convert Soundbite" mini-menu selection in the Soundbites Window?
It will do exactly what you are asking. It gives you a dialog with 4 or 5 things to fill in. You choose the file format (.wav), the sample rate (probably 44,100), bit rate (16 or 24 or 32), stereo or mono, and whether to use one stereo track or two deinterleaved mono tracks. If you choose the latter, it names them properly with the L and R suffixes.

Hitting OK creates the soundbites in the SB window, so you then have to drag the two files to the Finder. Grab them by the ≈ symbol, which is the handle for dragging. (at least, I think it is... I'm writing this blind without opening the app)
