A way to select the 2nd, 4th, 6th, 8th note in MIDI edit?

Post by rockman413 »

Hi
Is there a way to select only the odd notes in MIDI edit window? Like select the 2nd, 4th, 6th,8th, 10th, 12th note..

Is there a way to select only the quarter notes in the MIDI edit window?

Yes. Use the Search feature. For what you're asking, the answer will probably be the grid mode.

I believe he is referring to the search box at the top of the events window.

No time to check whether I'm confusing different DAWs, but that sort of search feature is in several DAWs lately for MIDI event editing.

Hi Terry,
Where's the event window? If you mean event list, there's no search box there

For future reference, the help menu can... well, help.
It's the rightmost menu item. I typed 'Search' and it immediately showed where it was (where cuttime indicated). The manual is searchable as well.

Thank you, but the RTFM does not tell me how to select the 2nd 4th 6th 8th note in a MIDI edit window. I'm not saying quarter notes, but in a row of notes , select the 2nd ,4th 6th 8 th 10th...all the odd number notes

EDIT:

I just looked in the EDIT/SEARCH/

And at the bottom of that search menu I saw items:

"Even 16ths (selected notes)"
"Odd 16ths (selected notes)" and
"8ths 3-feel (selected notes)"

It does work backwards in that "even" 16ths are 1 & 3, and "odds" are 2 & 4. Also, I can't tell what the third option above is supposed to do.

Did you select all the notes (odds and evens, just the whole batch) first, then select that menu item? That way it knows which notes you want to process for selection.

I'm in between hosts right now. Dropbox will no longer support inline BBCode, so I can't imbed a picture. Here's a link to the Search Dialog. Click it and you will see the grid I'm talking about.

Use the check-boxes on the grid to indicate select the notes you want to select.
You can connect them or make them separate. Lots of subtlety there. You'll have to figure it out. It's self-explanatory, plus there is the manual. But you will have to invest the time to learn to get what you want out of it.

PS: Anytime you make a search, SAVE IT! Use a name that makes sense to you later, out of context. I reuse my searches all the time. It's surprising how many you collect over the years, and I find myself needing the same things again and again. When you've got saved searches, DP becomes a lot more powerful, and you save a lot of time.

No. It is not self-explanatory-- at least not in any sense that I understand that phrase.

Ah. Set the number of grid points per note value shown above. Ok, now I get it.
