Yes, the info in that article from 2014 is probably more applicable to systems without SSDs on fast pipelines like USB3, SATA III, or Thunderbolt.

While I concur to a degree, SSDs are still far slower than RAM. Again, my impression (which admittedly could be placebo effect in action) is a smoother running system at small buffer sizes.dix wrote:Yes, the info in that article from 2014 is probably more applicable to systems without SSDs on fast pipelines like USB3, SATA III, or Thunderbolt.
PS: Glad to see your SSD issue has been resolved positively!

Re: How to Increase VI Performance FOR FREE
I'm not currently working on anything particularly VI heavy - my little stress test may not be the best way to evaluate. Next time I am I'll try making the adjustments and see what happens. I'm still not quite convinced I should go buy more RAM.
Re my phantom SSD, me too! Although I was hoping for a more interesting solution Thanks for your help on that!

Re: How to Increase VI Performance FOR FREE
I am running 32 gigs of RAM, but my projects (which usually involve many drum/bass/keyboard VIs and moderate VI orchestration) seem like they would generally fit within 24 gigs even at the largest pre-load settings. Now if you were running 8 gigs, that would be another story.dix wrote:I'm not currently working on anything particularly VI heavy - my little stress test may not be the best way to evaluate.
