Concern about High Sierra

Post by apanacci »

Hey guys, reading an article on ProTools Expert about the new Mac OS. It says could be the end of cheese grater support. Anyone else see this, thanks. http://www.pro-tools-expert.com/home...under-the-hood

Link is 404, but according to other sources, HS should run on Pros from mid-2010 models upwards.

All announcements say that if the Mac can run Sierra, it can run 10.13.

http://www.everymac.com/systems/by_capa ... orted.html

Only the 5.1 runs Sierra ... unless you've flashed the firmware on your 4.1 to let it run 10.12, of course.

Plenty of tutorials, youtube videos and threads here on how to do just that.

Once done, the the 4.1 wi-fi card (Airport extreme) is not recognised anymore and should be replaced by a more recent one. Again, plenty of workarounds for that, too.

Link is busted, or link is already gone.

You can gather all the viable information about the future found on ProToolsExpert and stuff it in a thimble, with room left over.

Actually, the OP just posted the link incorrectly and also seems to have misread the content?

http://www.pro-tools-expert.com/home-pa ... r-the-hood

It specifically says "The good news is that we understand that both the 4.1 and 5.1 versions of the cheese-grater Mac Pro machines will support macOS Sierra."

The article does talk about the new technologies included in High Sierra that do not support older Mac Pros (or most older macs in general).

It's quite informative and has a good bit of confirmed information regarding HS support of hardware, and new features.

Yes, it is the beginning of the end as only a few Macs will be 100% compatible — all released in 2017 or will be.

OK, I get it. But my 2010 iMac hasn't supported some parts of the OS du Jour since 10.8.2 yet it works better than ever.

I am hoping to upgrade in 2017 or 2018 after the new iMac Pro comes out. I may buy that, hold out for the 2018 Mac Pro or take advantage of the fire sale prices on the 2013 nMP. Or I'll be retired in the poor house and keep having to use this old thang (that runs better than new). We'll see...

can't be upgraded to the latest O.S. My 2009 Unibody
