If you're asking if it's possible, sure. Under the Apple in the Finder, select "Software Update". That should direct you to the App Store and there it is.

You might want to search this forum, though, to look at the recommended ways to do an OS update.

Backing things up, drive cloning, etc.

I'm sure some others with more expertise than I will chime in.

+1 on possible. Working great for me on my 4.1>5,1.

Should be an easy update, but, always remember: Clone before you Moan (if it just happens to NOT work!) Also run Time Machine before updating.

Backed up to Time Machine is better. But, if your RAM is in tip-top shape, a clone should be ok. If you haven't booted from your clone and reinstalled 10.9.5, do so — this is how create a Repair Partition (download Mavericks from the App Store and reinstall).

Now update to Sierra through the App Store.

If you have an issue (unlikely), use Migration Assistant to pull files from you clone—do not copy them over.

Some old plugs and apps might not like Sierra but all currently supported software does.

Worst case (highly unlikely) you would use your clone to re-clone to your system drive. Again, always re-install the OS onto any clone to create a Repair Partition.
