[Bumping my little question about using Magic Trackpad 2 and the Kensington Expert Trackball. I've been trying to find a better mousing solution for some time]

Is there a way to incrementally adjust active data fields in DP with the MT2 or he Kensington Expert Trackball? DP has loads of these fields throughout the app.

The one thing that keeps me using an old, basic Logitech scroll wheel mouse is that it's the only one I have that will let me scroll + and - in single digit increments. My other mouse adds + and - in increments of 10 when I scroll over an active data field (there's no pref for this in the CP). The Magic Mouse adds/subtracts random amounts (useless). ...but I love the gestures and inertia of the MM. If only someone could bring this all together, it'd be a great controller!

I have a wireless Kensington "Expert" trackball arriving Friday, and I'll set it up and let you know then.

I have a Logitech wireless mouse. Scrolling incrementally on data fields in DP adds or subtracts in 12 or so regardless of the scrolling speed setting. Example: Selecting a Soundbite and clicking on the Bite Gain data field and scrolling one increment increases the Bite Gain by 12db. Not very useful - a 1db change is what I'd expect. DP has lots of these fields, that allow you to scroll to + or - data through the app. Without single-digit incremental scrolling that functionality is lost.

I set up the Wireless Expert Trackball from Kensington today and tested it on the pan and fader values. At its scroll setting of "slow" it still moved in 4-step increments, and that is the finest setting it has. I could not achieve steps of single digit increments.

This is fine for me, but I promised I would get back to you on that, dix, so there you are. The increments are directly tied to the scroll speed you set - anything higher than the "slow" setting jumps even larger increments (4, 8, 12, etc. it seems).

FWIW, kids, when I have that fine a number to enter I just click on the box with the numbers and enter it in the numeric keypad. Way much more better and more faster than screwing around with a potato(e)... I means mouse. IMO

Definitely agree. I use the scroll wheel only to try a bunch of settings, typically. Then I type in the precise one I decide upon and move on.

Cool. Thanks for that little report Terry! Guess I'll keep looking. The Kensington doesn't support inertia by chance does it? ...I think only Apple products do that?

It's not really about precision MLC. It's about flow. I've become accustom to using the scroll wheel to quickly bump things up or down a notch.

Yes, the Kensington does support inertia. I'm using it now while reading on the web and it is very nice. I have not checked whether a button could be assigned to increment up or down by one yet -- a quick look around didn't reveal a method, but I did not look very hard. (Just had it a little over an hour!)

I totally hear that. I am also a creature of habit. Some I can break; others break me... LOL

Yes, the Kensington does support inertia.
Oh, nice! Though both'd be nice, I might set aside the incremental scroll thing if I could have inertia in DP.

Digging the magic trackpad. I like rollerballs (Kensington Turbomouse original with a cue ball) or track pads. I hate mice.
