I really like the Logitech MX Anywhere 2 mouse. It feels nice in my hand and I think I prefer it's analog inertia scheme to Apple's - LMXA2 just goes and goes.
I saw one of these heavily discounted at a local drug store and bought it. I'm amazed how much better it is than the various Apple Magic mouses I have, even for the most basic actions. With the MM, applications including DP sometimes seem unaware where the mouse is on the screen, or perhaps OS X displays its location inaccurately, and pointer motion sometimes lags or is jerky. This Logitech, by comparison is effortless, smooth and accurate.

My Magic Trackpad developed the sticking switch problem yesterday — not something that can happen when I'm trying to make a living. So, I took a break, went to the Apple Store and came home with a Magic Trackpad 2.

Wow! I had no idea. What seems to be minor improvement at first is a really nice upgrade. I like everything about it and wish I had bought one in 2015. I've barely explored the advanced features but will at some point. It took about 5 seconds to get used to it.By having it connected to my iMac via a lightening cable when I turned it on, it paired and inherited the settings of my old one—zero setup time. Yes!

I've heard these don't get the time between charges that Apple promises. Since it also works with the charging cable plugged in, I don't care. No more fiddling with changing batteries one-handed is worth the $129 just by itself.

Anyway, the Magic Trackpad 2 is my new favorite.

It turns out that the sticking switch issue on the first gen MT isn't hard to fix. Read the comments before trying:

Better Touch Tool is your friend. I also use better Snap Tool and with Keyboard Maestro and have arrived at a system that seems to think like I do.

I did the fix on https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Magic+Trac ... tment/6171 (Do read the comments before trying).

Piece of cake. A T6 torx did for me. No issue with the glue on the chip—I went slowly and the back came loose. Perhaps because it is 7 years old? Took 1/8 turn and it popped back together in a second.

My first gen Magic Trackpad works great. It and the third gen Magic Keyboard are up on eBay now. Now that the 5th gen keyboard has a numeric keypad and a forward delete key, that unused one I've had for seven years can find a new home.

Those of us using the Magic Trackpad 2 are loving it. Read the earlier comments.

My Logitech mice have been the best. Kensington makes a good product as well. Haven't used a mouse on my system in a very long time. MTPad 2 and Better Touch Tool is all I need in that regard.

I created a Yosemite boot drive in anticipation of OS 10.13. I want to see if certain old apps will work before I update my main drive. These installers don't work in El Cap or later.

Anyway... I discovered that the Magic Trackpad 2 doesn't work very well in Yosemite and earlier. Simple gestures and left-click only — unlike a mouse, left-click-hold does not bring up the right-click menu. A little research shows that it cannot be made to work properly.

Interesting. Not an issue for me since it's a test disk only. Strange to go back to my Logitech trackball to do what I needed.

If considering the MT2, you need to be running El Capitàn or later. No way around it that I can find.

Yeah, updating has definite benefits. I'm always concerned about losing apps with each upgrade. I lost Finale in El Cap and got it back in Sierra. Go figure!

I'll add 2014.5 to my High Sierra test drive.

One thing I like about Logitech mice, trackballs and keyboards is that they use their own little USB receiver plug for a wireless receiver. You don't have to wait for Bluetooth to come up, meaning you can use them for system repair, changing sys/drives and OS's, etc. Apple may have fixed that problem; I haven't done that with my Magic Trackpad lately. But not so many years ago, I would have to plug in a wired mouse and keyboard to do any system work.
