iPad MIDI controller?

Post by daerp1 »

The only DP dedicated app that I've found is the VERY out of date, "DP Control". So I'm looking for a little advice. Has anyone found a good app for sending and MIDI CC data to DP9?

I would like to find something effective since I am away from my main setup for the next while and have limited gear. I have a 61 key MIDI keyboard with a mod wheel and pitch bend only. No sliders, buttons or knobs that will send CC data.

Related to this question, is it possible to record notes with the keyboard and simultaneously send key switch data from the iPad (to the same track in DP9) with something like "Pianist Pro"? If this is possible, I'm not sure how to set up the routing.

Any help appreciated greatly.

I use both of these products and would recommend them:

https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/daw-con ... 25383?mt=8

https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/MIDI-de ... 91712?mt=8

Note that the DAW controller can be customized, the details are in this thread:

Related to your last question, this is possible, too, but the routing can be problematic. I don't know what OS you're using, and up until OS Sierra this could be accomplished using the Audio MIDI Setup "Network" setup for WIFI. With Sierra you have to explore wired options until Apple provides a fix. I now use either:

https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/musicio ... 03016?mt=8

or

https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/midimit ... 95245?mt=8

Both of which require a server to run in the background on your computer.

I'm a big fan of MIDI Designer. The learning curve is steep, but support and docs are very good.

What it does is let's you put together custom MIDI control panels with buttons, sliders, knobs, selectors, etc. etc. It could be used to run lots of MIDI-type commands in DP. However, it's not set up to do the other kinds of things that DP control could do-- (that aren't covered by Commands).

I recall someone mentioning that ProTools control kind of worked with DP.

MetaGrid is something that users have been starting to use. They did a bunch of work building in DP functionality:
