EW Play 5 and DP 9.12 - no pre-gen?

Post by artfarm1 »

I've been using DP 9.12 for a couple of weeks now... much to love, and so far so good.

Except, I had some crashes building up and occurring; seemingly when I was using a few instances of PLAY libraries.

Maybe PLAY doesn't like the latest 'pre-gen' build?

I've put PLAY into 'real time' mode, and all seems well at the moment.
I've put EW Spaces into 'real time' as well.

Any other users with East West tips or observations?

...hmmm... PLAY might be just fine... could be something else.

Seems like DP 9.12 crashed a few times when it's in the middle of a 'save'; or coming out of a 'save' into 'play' mode.

I do find many things to be snappier in DP 9.12 compared to 8.07.

Love the endless 'undo' feature (command - Z) to go back a few moves, or to 're-undo' as well.

OK.... verdict.... DP 9.12 is really nice (on my system) and the new PLAY 5 engine from EastWest is fantastic.

Once I got the 'sample cache' setting to '0' (because I have my EastWest libraries on SSD's) all is well. No crashes from DP.

PLAY defaulted to the correct 'sample cache' settings automatically, but I messed around with them; which lead to some crashing.

I'm running a big template of Hollywood Orchestra (Gold, not Platinum) for this particular project on my system, and all is well.

I pasted this from EW support page....caps not mine:

PLEASE NOTE: PLAY 5 DOES NOT SUPPORT 32-BIT. IF YOU USE A 32-BIT HOST CONTINUE USING PLAY 4.3.5.

I still don't fully understand 32-bit float, but maybe this is the connection?

32-bit processing, not 32-bit float. It means you can only run PLAY v5 by running DP in 64-bit mode. It won't even load in 32-bit mode.

Interesting, on my system Play doesn't allow me to adjust the sample cache, at least not as a plug in, in DP. It's blank for those settings.

In PLAY 5, the sample cache is in the 'Settings/Streaming/Sample Cache/Cache Level' area of the plugin interface

There is a setting for each drive detected with EastWest libraries on it. You can try different settings depending on how demanding the project is.

I'm successfully using settings of '0' with my SSD drives when using Hollywood Orchestra Gold, even though my 2009 MacPro is still at SATA II speeds for the disk connections.
