Mac OS Sierra Who's Brave?

Post by waxman »

Mac OS Sierra releases tomorrow. The warnings are already coming in. Seems it's not playing well with AU plugins. Who's brave?

Other than Plugin Alliance? They always seem to have problems with new OS releases.

Seems like it's prudent to hang back sometimes. I think I'd rather not take the risk that only Plug In Alliance plugs might be affected.

AFAIK, MOTU has not made any Sierra compatibility statements. If I'm wrong, please enlighten me.

As far as I can tell, it looks like the big deal with Sierra is its integration with iOS, which isn't important to me at all. Is there anything else that I should be excited about?

Always wait six months before updating to a new Mac OS...that's my motto. And skip every other
one. If Apple's tradition continues, Sierra will be a fixed version of El Capitan. Just as Snow Leopard was Leopard fixed, and Mountain Lion was Lion fixed.

Not brave enough to jump off a cliff.

My system (most current El Cap and DP) is working so well, maybe better than it ever has. I may be here a long time.. It feels a little like the Snow Leopard days again..

MOTU always waits till the release to comment and usually follows up with any new drivers in a few days if needed. The recent USB issue affected nearly everyone and took a lot longer to resolve.

I have no reason not to be an early adopter but I always wait a few days. I'll uninstall DP 7.24 and Finale 2011 & 2014.5 first to see if they reinstall. As they work fine in 10.11.6, I don't see any problem but you never know.

I hope that Encore 5.0.7, MasterWriter 2, Photoshop Elements 6 and Office 2008 still work in Sierra. I'll also have to check and see which older iMacs are no longer supported for the school computers I maintain — no big deal if I can't update those, however.

10.12 doesn't appear to be a watershed release like Yosemite and 10.8. We'll see...

I do not feel any nostalgia for 10.6. Too many things were broken in 10.5 that were not fixed till 10.8.2. Leopard, Lion and Mavericks were dogs, however.

UA's statement is out that is. It says NOT to update to Sierra if using UA plugins.

This is the most concise and apparently correct compatibility chart I've seen (I still see press releases saying that this release of sierra uses APFS):
