I need some advice re. Merging DP Documents
Hi and thanks for considering my question.
I need some advice re. Merging DP Documents
The answer is likely right in front of me but I’m not seeing it yet…
I’m using a MacBook Pro 2.7 w/ 16 GB ram OS 10.10.5
DP9, 828 mk3
I have a FOLDER in my Mac that contains all parts of a DP project:
i.e. Analysis Files, Audio Files, Autosaves, Undo, Bounces, etc.
AND of course, it contains the DP project Files… of which there are 3.
However, only 1 is the “Mother” DP File.
The other 2 DP Files in the FOLDER amount to part A & B of the Mother File.
(think of an amoeba dividing into non identical parts)
extra info:
All 3 are using both Audio and MIDI in their function.
All 3 are linked to the same Audio Files folder for their audio content.
There are aprox 125 WAV files in the Audio File folder.
Each Sequence Chunk is linked—by name —to a Soundbite in the Audio File folder.
As with all children, they change after leaving the Mother.
DP File A and B have each evolved via edits since being split from Mom.
But now, I want to Re-Merge A & B into a new Parent—
—with all the new modifications and edits intact—including Markers info and Comments, etc.
IS THERE A QUICK WAY TO DO THIS
or is it a matter of open file, copy data, close, open new, paste, save…
for 60+ Sequence Chunks? ! ? !
I guess I’m seeing two ways of going about it and having NEVER gone backwards in my life
I’m wondering what is the best route.
One way is to try and update the original Mother File by copying and pasting/merging tracks, etc. over the original Mother tracks.
The other would be to just copy all the data from A and past it into B.
If I could simply “drag” one DP File onto the other and merge them, THAT would be ideal?
Any thoughts? THANKS!

Re: I need some advice re. Merging DP Documents
I would create a new empty, clean project.
Then I would go under the FILE menu and LOAD each chunk, importing all elements (soundbites, etc).
Then I'd have my way with it!

Thanks, MLC
Could it be that easy?
I hope so... I'll give it a try.
Again, I appreciate the insight.

Sliding the DP project file over to the chunks window will in fact open up the load dialog window.
Music is movement in silence

When you say "slide over" do you mean drag and drop? But does this method copy every nuance to the new location or does it also open the same dialogue box of selections prior?
btw I selected every choice available in the "what to Load" dialogue box.
So, using MIDI Life Crisis' method, it appears everything transferred fine. However, I'm getting no audio when playing. If I click on a soundbite, I can hear audio but not when selecting Play.
There are no sliders in the V-Rack instruments. I can only open one of the 4 Virtual Instruments, Motu's PolySynth. Superior Drummer, Mach5-3 and Kontakt 5 will not open their instrument window. Their names do appear in the channel insert but won't open.
It seems there is more to do.
I do thank you for weighing in on my questions.

Check your output assignments in the audio. If you used a different device for output it will still be selected.

Re: I need some advice re. Merging DP Documents
Trial and Error, my best teachers...
What I was doing is Loading EVERYTHING from each of the two Files into the new project. I only needed to load ONE Bundles configuration as both File A & B had the same set up.
(Well, I suppose even if they were different I'd have to choose one or the other or neither... and set up later.)
But with 125 Chunk Sequences I was really trying to avoid re-editing/configuring each Sequence Chunk. But all in all it seems to be up and working. So, with your initial help, a call to MOTU Tech Support (which did not help—this time) I/we figured it out and I'm back in the saddle again.
Once again, thanks for the helpful suggestions.

With RED Forum Rules glaring at me above the header, now I'm wondering if my topic should have been posted in a different section.

Good!
It's one thing to be confused but it is entirely another to be confused in the wrong place.
Thanks MLC

Yeah, I wasn't around then either.
I was trapezodial in such a tight space.
Your fetal-photo reminded me of the Womb Room Studio I was living in back then... no gear but a lot of good ideas.
Just wasn't sure if it was your profile or mine.
