I don't like anyone messing with network access unless required to authorize.

This bothers me...

I took it for a quick spin. The first thing I did was Preferences>Usage Data>Send Anonymous Usage Data>No, I don't want to contribute. I DLd it with the new Native Access application, which is replacing ServiceCenter, eventually. ServiceCenter will continue to work for a while with older versions. I couldn't tell a lot of difference except for some GUI tweaks.

I'll wait a bit. The "old" player is working just fine so unless there is a performance boost or GUI advantage, I'll stick.

The database searching seems to be a bit different for me. I updated the DB, but it seems like I get different results than I'm used to. Spaces and certain words seem to be ignored.

I'll pass on this one. Aside from some scripting
advancements which only benefit Kontakt
developers, there is nothing in it that is
an improvement. And I doubt it works well
in 9.12.

What does it take to get this update to install?

I tried Service Center, the new updater app, and directly installing a downloaded update for Kontakt 5.6, and all fail. Only the direct install gives a message, which is something to the effect of the original disk image can't be found.

I guess we have to load the original throwaway USB hard drives that Komplete came on? Don't know if I even saved it!

This is resolved now. I'm betting the new installer app corrupted a lot of my NI stuff, as it fails on ALMOST every installation now and I have to revert to NI Service Center most of the time.

I have to go to "Overview" in NI Service Center, "Show Details" for Kontakt 5 Application, and then re-point it to the location of the standalone version of Kontakt, even though it is in the default location.

Sorry to hear of your troubles, Mark.
I downloaded it using my really old
(Snow Leopard-era) Service Center.
No problems, but after reading about the
new NI installation app problems I decided
not to install Kontakt 5.6.

I think its obvious..the new NI app and
Kontakt 5.6's "automatic usage reporting"
point to NI moving to a subscription model.
If its anything like East West's horrid Composer
Cloud model, this is not a good development.

I'm interested to hear from those who said they t was "no big deal" before actually trying it. I made that mistake with DP6. Never again. Sorry for your problems, Mark.

I'm using it with DP 9.02 and the new version of VE Pro 6 and its' all working fine, and at low latencies.

Older projects open fine.

MOTU...PLEASE bring back the run all plug-ins real-time option!!!

I want to update DP!

No big deal here. I used the new "Native Access" application.

Enabling or disabling something with one click is a "big deal"? ...sorry, two clicks if you close the window afterwards - which is an even bigger deal. My remark from the other thead was only referring to the option being available for the user, it's not something that NI chose to do behind our backs. That, is no big deal to me.

Now...I haven't had any trouble installing the update through NI's Native Access, and Kontakt 5.6 seems solid. I've only used it a couple times in both Pro Tools and DP but so far no issue. I like the new look!

Installing a piece of software for the sole purpose of being able to report to the developer is kind of an inconvenience, IMO. If there was ANY improvement in performance or the GUI (which is reported as not really much changed) I could see doing this, but given the difficulties Mark reports, I really don't need the extra work just to say I have the latest version. Yeah, when you're busy or don't want to risk screwing things up, or don't want to take the time just to disable the call-back feature (the only thing this update really does) then yeah, it's kind of a big deal.
