I have to go back to 9.02 for now. I'm leaving 9.1 on my drive, but I'm not getting anything done, because I am always focusing on figuring out 9.1 when I should be using my limited time on a project. So, I'll be able to test 9.1 when I get some extra time, but that time hasn't been materializing.

Time, time, time, time, time. It all comes down to that.

Yes these nunbers are almost equal...but Dp metering shows different cpu usage.
The DP Meter was always something I couldn't figure out. I just turn it off, and if there is apparent CPU overload, bring up Activity Monitor.
+1

I've never seen it be reliable for telling me when there's going to be a playback issue or interruption. I have a terminal with top running most of the time, more or less the same thing as Activity Monitor.app. Way more reliable in my experience.

However, it's never really a problem. Stuff usually just works fine (in 9.02 at least).

What happens if you double the size of the project? Quadruple? There may be a non-linear relationship here.
I have duplicate all tracks and I get this........

Did you notice anything else consuming significant CPU when you looked at Activity Monitor?

I almost did the same. But I'm hanging on to 9.1. It hasn't overloaded my system yet nor distracted me too much so I'll see if I can hang on until the update. I'm also really pushing 9.1 with VEP 6.

I thought I could, but I really need to use The Cello, and it simply isn't usable in DP9.1. At least, not on my system. I've tried pretty much everything. Certainly everything I can think of, and then some. It just stays in the red when Record is enabled. Not just the meter, but the sound is just a roar of overload static. Can't hear myself play. Playback is great! But record is unusable. And the MIDI continuous controller bug documented elsewhere is a problem for me, too. I can't hear the first bar of anything I play when punching in or recording after existing data. Once this stuff is fixed, I'll be back on DP 9.1 like ugly on an ape.

I assume you have 12 threads going on a six core, so DP is using about 8% of the CPU of your system for light duty. It uses about 12% of mine for similar stuff. So unless this is causing glitches, I'd just ignore it.

So far my use of 9.1 has been limited to playing around, short editing sessions, and light work in general. Yesterday, however, I spent the whole day mixing in 9.1. Overall it wasn't bad. I did have 2 crashes (I've never seen a crash in 9.02) and performance didn't feel a whole lot different than 9.02. Admittedly these were pretty lightweight mixes - 9 audio tracks in the biggest one with no VIs. So I guess I wouldn't really notice performance differences. I suspect the next release will be quite usable, but I think I'll wait for it before doing any heavy lifting.

Absolutely not rubbing it in peoples faces but I think it should be mentioned that so far I'm pretty happy with 9.1. There is a noticeable jump in CPU consumption when I have multiple plug in instruments in record mode, but the CPU level drops off at the rates MOTU advertised once record is off.

I'm in the latest version of El Capitan on a heavily modified 12 core 09 Mac Pro.

Same here on my largely unmodified 2013 trash can under 10.11.5. I've done a couple of projects in DP 9.1 and aside from the initial problem with the VST version of PSP Xenon and having to switch to the AU version, the new projects work great and the old projects are working great. I truly have zero problems to report otherwise. Then again, I don't have any Waves plugs.

As far as the Snapshot Automation bug that toodamnhip has been hoping gets fixed, it's not just Waves plug ins that are affected. Just like any manufacturer (especially one with a convoluted copy protection scheme IMO), Waves has been and could be partially to blame for a bug, but I think it's kosher to say that Waves aren't the only ones affected by this particular bug, i.e. they don't necessarily deserve to be singled out for it.

I'm using almost all VST in recent songs, AU when a manufacturer does AU and VST3 only. My machine has good CPU overhead, and DP resides on a fast SSD.

The issue with sustain pedal during record IS, as you know, is a known bug that has been confirmed by MOTU an will be addressed in the next update.

James: I must've missed this sustain pedal bug earlier in the thread; what is the nature of the bug? Thanks.
