How do you delay a MIDI track?

Post by MikeInBoston »

For example, in Cubase you can type in an amount in milliseconds (both positive or negative) to adjust the timing of a track when it plays back. How can I do that in DP?

Thanks, guys.

In the Mixing Board, the MIDI plugin, Delay.

If the playback is unquantized, or quantization has been written to the track, L and R arrow keys will move selected data earlier or later in the timeline. There is a user-programmable amount per keystroke. If plug in quantization is being applied, it will negate slight time shifts.

There is a MIDI plugin, "Time Shift", for just this purpose. It allows you to set +/- delays by beats/ticks, hh:mm:ss.ms, frames, or samples (in that respect, it is more flexible than Cubase's track shift). I have TS on all of my external VEPro/slave system-targeted MIDI tracks to offset the roundtrip delay.

I may have misled you a little. It's not called "Delay" in the MIDI Plugins; it's called "Time Shift." You can type in the amount you want the data shifted, either + or -. It plays it back in real time, shifted by the amount you type in. Non destructive. I believe you can print that to disk when you get it where you want it, if you want to.

Thank you, guys. I knew there was a way. DP rarely lets us down.
