MasterWorks EQ Automation Behavior

Post by Rick Cornish »

Hey there........
Love the MW EQ. Has anyone else noticed that—while the gain control on the individual bands goes to +/-24dB, DP's automation controls will only let you go +/-20dB?

Am I doing something wrong?
Is there a work-around?

Rick, I'm using DP7.24, but I thought it couldn't hurt to mention that all the gain parameters top out at -20dB on my sytem. That includes the plug-in's GUI, the Sequence Editor window, and the Event List. I tried entering -24 in the Event List and it wouldn't accept that value. -20dB was the limit.

I'm on DP 9.02 and the gain controls in the MW EQ only go to +/- 20dB. Just checked it in DP 8.07 and got the same results as Tritone. Are you sure you're not looking at the scale on the graph (which goes to +/- 24dB when the 24 button is on)?

You are right, sir. I was looking at the scale. When I read the data display is clearly shows that +/- 20dB is the max.

OK—feeling stupid now.

Been there, done that. No problem, Rick. I just did the same thing in another thread. I hope nobody read my stupid post before I got a chance to delete it.

I'm still on 8, has the scale been corrected for each gain resolution in 9? It's been wrong for a long time.

How is it wrong? There are four scales: 3, 6, 12, and 24 dB. Each one seems correct as far as I can tell.

look at the dB range markings. If you switch around between ranges, the dB markings do all sorts of random stuff. In 3dB range I just got it to display 0 and +/-3 only, then +/-3 where +/-1.5 should be and +/-3 again at +/-3 (two 3 points!), then switching to 24 range and back to 3 range it displayed +/-12 at the +/-1.5 mark and +/-3 at the +/-3 mark. I've seen all sorts of similar incorrect displays, several different computers.

Wow! Very strange. I've never noticed that behavior before, but after playing with it for a while, I got it to fail once. Closing and re-opening the window corrected it. I haven't been able to reproduce it, so it seems to be an intermittent problem. (But it DID happen once).
