The Clock is ticking...

Post by supersonic »

Hi Guys

I have recently had a close encounter with the Fourth Dimension Beings that switched my DP to 48kHz while the main converter (SSL AlphaLink connected via RME Madi USB Interface) was sending and singing that USB interface to 88.2 kHz. Unbeknownst to my perception the whole thing got recorded and sound quite good. Come home and the whole thing goes west. The speed is all wrong. My temporary solution is to record it back at the studio onto another analog converter on another machine (because as long as the conditions are met the sound is fine).
However, this brings a question.

Why didn't DP follow the sampling frequency, and how can one solve that problem if for any particular reason they are not able to go back to the same set-up again.

In the Soundbites mini window > convert audio file, there is a checkbox you can select that will "change only the recognized sample rate", and not actually convert the audio.
DP11, 2019 16-Core Mac Pro, Monterey, 64GB RAM. RME HDSPe MADI FX to SSL Alphalink to SSL Matrix console, and multiple digital sub consoles. UAD Quad PCIe. Outboard stuff.

In case that doesn't work, try Soundhack.
Soundhack almost always works in these cases to change the header back to the correct sample rate, although your issue may be more complicated than that.

I tried that right at the start and it didn't work but now that you have said it I will try a different frequency. The funny thins is that the files sound like 44.1 played at 48. But they are already at 88.2 except that they were clocked to 88.2 (go figure). What I did as a backup plan I sent the whole project via analog to a Fostex recorder and then back into a clean session at 48kHz. That kind of worked except that there were tiny little pops (sync issues) that I cleaned up with RX5 (Bless Izotope for that wonderful tool, it saved me a countless amount of times). I will try something different now and will let you know if it worked.

Sorry- looks like it's gone or maybe way past its prime. I think the actual app originally called Soundhack is at the very bottom of the Freeware page.
