OT? Soundflower, alternatives?

Post by SMS »

Need to get a Reverbnation file into DP for a client. I used Soundflower for this kind of stuff in the past but I can't get it to work anymore. Is there another or a better way to do this?

Thanks

Soundflower 1.6.6b works fine for me over OS 10.11.4.
http://en.softonic.com/s/soundflower-1.6.6:mac

I find it easiest to record to QuickTime 7.6.6. This gives me a file I can use in anything. This installer puts it into your Utilities folder where it belongs.
https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201288

There are other ways to use Soundflower, of course but this is what works best for me.

Remember that you have to set audio in and out for Soundflower and select it as your input in QT Preferences/Recording.

Audio Hijack by Rogue Amoeba is a pretty versatile product for recording & routing audio. (It used to be called Audio Hijack Pro, but the newest version dropped that "pro" designation).

I've used it for years. It's reliable and HIGHLY configurable.

It costs $50, unless you are updating from a previous version.

It just keeps saying "Soundflower not installed..."- tried uninstall/reinstall, etc. I'll maybe investigate further when time permits.

Thanks!

It looks like 2.0.2 is out and installs correctly in El Cap. I remember that I was running Yosemite when I installed 1.6.6b.

Have you come across anything describing what V2 does? 1.6.6b is the latest version I had seen to now. A version 2 it implies some significant changes, but I can't find a changelog that goes past 1.6.5. Those linked in the 2.0.2 source and dmg lead either to 404 messages or old logs that don't even go as far as 1.6.6. Is there anything to it other than a Apple signature and new file locations?

I just downloaded and ran the 2.0b.2 installer. Haven't tested yet, but it looks like it will work, as it's now showing up i8n AM setup, DP, etc. Oddly, the installed version shows as 1.6.6 ?????

Probably not that odd. I believe that the only change was installing it where Apple wants it now.

I'm not remembering that I disabled Gatekeeper to install 1.6.6b in Yosemite—perhaps I did. Anyway, I used it just last week for something—I don't remember what—but it worked fine.

Thanks for reporting back. Saves me the trouble of downloading 2.0.2.

Probably not. I've never disabled Gatekeeper and have been using 1.6.6b for a long time in Yosemite.

Gatekeeper has no effect on whether or not an app will run, only whether or not you can install it.

Some parts of this article are not correct but I don't feel like logging in and fixing it.

Yes, but I've installed it a few times under Yosemite. Once, for example, when I retreated back to it after a El Cap fiasco.

As long as we're discussing Soundflower, there's a lot of misinformation out there such as that you can't monitor the audio (you can) or that it disables your Mac's volume (not true).

This page has instructions as good as any out there.
