DP 9.1?

Post by amadeus1 »

Hello all,

Anyone know when DP 9.1 is coming out? The engine is supposed to be greatly improved in speed and efficiency. The moto rep on the west coast described some of the features at a SCL conference.

At NAMM, the MOTU reps said possibly 2nd quarter of this year. Or maybe they said 3rd quarter, I don't remember exactly. No one knows for sure.

I added a question mark in the title. Maybe that will help prevent people from getting their hopes up. Or not. I don't like being sucker punched. However, if the poster was sincere, I can live with the announced improvements.

Shoosh
unreal!....

I lay in bed this a.m., thinking "when I get up , I'm going to log on to MOTUNation and try and put a "?" at the end of that "DP 9" thread title, so that it will not appear as a definitive statemeent, but rather what it is...a question!"

good call, Shoosh, now I can go back to bed!

So far, v9 is shaping up to fit in with DP's "odd-numbered version" legacy, in which it seems that every odd-numbered version MOTU puts out is solid from the get-go. I actually don't recall v8 being much of a problem, though (and I never really had any problems with v6 that I can remember), but I know the even-numbered versions are usually when MOTU likes to spring a huge amount of changes to the software.

7 has been the best V for me since 4.5, thats why I'm still using it, one crash in 5 years.....

Trend or not, 8 is great! Working so well under Mountain Lion I am loathe to upgrade to 9.

6 definitely had a lot of problems (that's where they introduced pre-gen), and 7 was rock-solid, even on a slower system like I was using at the time. So far, 9 seems to be fairly solid, too, but I won't know for sure until I take it for a full-fledged 64-bit test drive with a lot of VIs, which I haven't had a chance to do yet.

Never really got a chance to mess around with v8, although I ran a couple of mix projects I did in 7 through it and it was pretty stable. From what I can tell so far, 9 really hasn't changed a lot from 8, except that it definitely acquiesces to OS's like El Capitan and Windoze 10. Also, you get MX4 with DP 9 and I spent most of my time in 9 so far messing around with that. It's a great addition to the bundled DP instruments.

Cue toodamnhip in ten, minus nine seconds!

In all seriousness though, 9 is stable enough for me, but nowhere near as bug free as 7 or 8 were.
I'm chalking it into under the hood changes and expect that most bugs are squashed when 9.1 comes out. Example bugs are mute automation, snapshot bugs, disappearing tracks, and virtual instrument bugs related to MIDI out vi's.

Same here. 8 has been very very solid for me, and I saw little insensitive for the kinds of things I do to upgrade to 9 (I already have most of the types of plugins they added, and the other features are minor). I'll see what the big 10 has to offer.

7.24 and 8.07. It took awhile.

It will likely be 9.1.x to be as stable from what I read. I've not had any problems but I don't use it like anyone else and, no doubt, no one else uses it like I. It's one of those things that makes any full-featured product a bit of a moving target.

DP 4.5 and 5.13 were very good for me. It took that long before I could trust DP to not crash routinely.

Many wish that MOTU loved it enough to port it to OS X.
