Track Folder Behavior Question

Post by Rick Cornish »

(Forgive me it this was covered in the manual or elsewhere on the forum, but I did look…)

I love track folders and put most all my tracks into folders in the TO, but am having problems moving/arranging my track folders.

When dragging a folder of tracks to the bottom of the track list, it automagically nests inside the bottom track folder, instead of going to the "root level," like I want. The only way I've found to avoid this is to insert a "dummy track" at the bottom of the track list (one that is not inside a track folder) and drag the track folder I want to move below that, then delete the dummy track.

Can anyone tell me....
1. How can I move track folders in my TO without them automatically nesting inside other track folders?
2. How can I "un-nest" a track folder from within another track folder (other than, obviously un-doing the move to dragging it to a spot that's adjacent to a tack that's not in a folder)?

Thanks in advance.

I've always had that problem. I just drag things to the second last position, then drag the item at the bottom up one place. It's an extra step, but it avoids getting the folder structure messed up.

+1 on your track folder comments.
Not sure how helpful this is but I have recently noticed that in the SE when dragging a folder up you can nest the folder at the "root" level. Moving a folder down unfortunately does not seem to allow this.

Re: Track Folder Behavior Question—SOLVED

Post by Rick Cornish »

Mystery solved, courtesy of the nice folks at MOTU:
1. In the example above, you want to move one folder below another folder without the first one being placed inside the second. To do this, simply close the second folder. This will prevent the first from being nested within it.

2. To remove a folder 1 from folder 2, simply make sure any other folders in the TO are closed, and then drag folder 1 in the space between the top of folder 2 and whichever item resides above it (track, folder, etc.).

I hope this is helpful. Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Thank you,
Brian
