Thanks, Michael!

I noticed it said the next two upcoming releases (updates) will be free. Gotta love MOTU. Looks like I'll be needing a new computer soon because I just can't resist all of the great enhancements introduced since DP 7.24.

I came to the opposite conclusion. With latency reduction and pre-gen enhancements, I expect to be able to keep my ancient iMac a little longer.

Nice! I do wish they could be specific though, i.e. The exact CPU RAM etc. model of Mac Pro, the competition tested at four times as efficient, (another popular DAW), the exact Cinesamples used etc.

I'm extremely happy that they're doing all this for free and am in no way ungrateful for it. I should have my pennies (literally) saved up for Logic, and will be doing a 'before and after' stress test with both Logic and Live. Not because I want to prove them wrong, but just for a solid real world example for myself and others.

The Next Gen Pre Gen thing is really good. I'm kind of surprised to find out that this wasn't happening already, frankly speaking. But anyway, this will eliminate in many cases the need to ever freeze tracks again. I like it!

I used Logic for years, a few things are better in Logic, but mainly I have a few projects I would like to work on, and people to work with that use Logic.
For pop music the simple looping in Logic is pretty cool. Also I'm pretty sure I'm missing something in DP but I can't figure out how to turn a loop into a real copy? Tried multiple searches in the PDF etc.

It will depend on the build of that MacPro. The early ones cannot run DP 9 in 64bit.

Aside from that, I'm with Bayswater. Every update of the Mac OS and DP makes my system run faster and better. I expected to need an upgrade two years ago.

Throwing a 2T Samsung 850 EVO into my 2010 iMac made things even better and was well worth the money. I have no idea how much longer I can put off a major hardware upgrade but I'm thinking 2017 at the earliest.

I was thinking along those lines. With the improvements in software, I'm tempted to put a SSD in my iMac and keep it going a bit longer.

The 2009–2010 27" iMacs are the only ones that are tricky to do thanks to the connector for the HD cooling fan. OWC has a replacement sensor that allows you to use anything without resorting to a software hack to keep the fans working properly.

In addition, I like replacing the NV RAM battery at the same time and these are the only ones on the back of the motherboard. Not for the faint of heart. I found someone local who charges $100 to install both or $75 for the NV RAM battery only.

Earlier and later iMacs are much easier. I can do either in under a half hour.

I've watched the OWC video a couple of times. If it wasn't for the connectors, suction cups, and almost complete dismantling of the iMac, it would have been done by now.

The suction cups make removing the glass easy and cheap cups from the hardware store work just as well. There are other ways. The magnets aren't very strong.

The OWC video makes it much more difficult than it is — most of the steps are unnecessary. You do not need to remove the screen unless replacing the NV RAM battery on the 2009–2010 (and only those years). You remove the screws and lift one end disconnecting only one wire for the microphone. I use the box for the adapter to prop the screen up which gives me plenty of room to work. Plugging the sensor into the motherboard is tricky because it's quite small and must be aligned perfectly. Using two hands makes it easier but that is not something I can do. The only other difficulty is re-setting the screen screws without the magnets interfering and I have a trick for doing that one-handed.

Although I like to replace that battery, it certainly be done at another time. Once I looked at all the steps involved in removing and replacing the motherboard, I paid the man. Had I two hands, I would have done it myself. Seeing two more of those fan sensor connectors is what did it for me.
