Using DP with a Solid State Drive

Post by jonesmusic80 »

This may not be the best place to post this topic, but I don't see a forum specifically about hardware.

I want to *add* a 1 TB internal solid state drive (SSD) to my computer. Some folks on here recommended that I get an SSD to use with DP.

Anyway, I called Dell and they told me that my computer (which is only 1 year old) "can only support Internal Fixed SATA HDD 3.5". They said the only options for an additional internal hard drive are:

500GB SATA3 7200RPM
1TB SATA3 7200RPM
2TB SATA3 7200RPM

They offered no explanation as to why my computer will not support an SSD. I called back and spoke to someone different and received the same information from the second agent.

Any DP users have an internal SSD and/or any advice?

Thanks!

Dell may not support an SSD in your machine – perhaps it may void some warranty.

Otherwise, the advice you received is nonsense. Many of us are using SSDs, Mac and Win, and have noticed a significant performance boost with DP.

Your question is a near duplicate of another received a few months ago. Unfortunately, I could not find the thread to point you to it.

You may have to get an adapter to support the 2.5" SSD in a 3.5" slot, but other than that, you should have no issues.
