AU or VST
Hello everyone
I hope you had a wonderful Christmas time.
Back at work over here and having some issues for the nth time running a VST mainly setup (just in case I need to open it in PC). Has anyone tried working with VSTs over an extended period of time vs Audiounits? Anything you would like to share on the stability side of things?
Have a great end of year!

Re: AU or VST
I always opt for a VST over AU where possible and haven't seen any issues to report. I should add the I have eliminated all Waves plugs as the cause nothing but problems in any of my systems every time I've installed them over many years and systems back to their beginnings. I also don't use a ton of plugs and always use a master track as well as bus tracks using the same plugs to an aux track and one instance of the plug (rather than multiple instances in every track).

Re: AU or VST
Thanks for the feedback. I need to use Waves occasionally and also use the AUX and Master tracks in the same way as you do. I also use UAD, PSP, Wavesarts, Izotope and a few others and overall I have a couple hundred of them on the system. Perhaps I should slim that down...

Pretty much at you plug in issues are always tracked down to a Waves problem. Some plugs have their own plist files. Deleting these, as well as reinstalling the plug can help keep things humming. I have a lot of the same plugs you do, but use plugin sets in DP to keep the overhead and DP launch time faster. Probably helps in reducing compatibility issues as well. Or I'm just really lucky.

I use the sets as well. As you say. It seems to boil down to the preferences going bad. I am trying to use the console to track down the crashes but it is not always visible what goes on there.

More or less the way that I work, too. Just haven't had issues where the AU and VSTs have the same functionality.MIDI Life Crisis wrote:I always opt for a VST over AU where possible and haven't seen any issues to report. ... Antares would be the exception except that I almost never use those anymore. They support AU and VST3 so there's only one choice on the Mac. As DP for Windows cannot use AU nor VST3, I have pretty much given up on Antares and will no longer upgrade my apps; the AU versions still work, however.
