How can I automate MIDI transpose?

Post by labman »

Need to automate at least the bypass, on the MIDI transpose plug. Any way to do this? It doesn't seem to work.

I'm pretty sure you can't do that.

With some of the MIDI plugs (quantize, shift) because they are time based, I think it was a can of worms to try to automate them.

Seems like transpose would have been a good candidate to automate, however, I just don't think that function is permitted.

However, as a workaround, you could create a copy or copies of your MIDI tracks. Enable the transpose plugs on each of them, then just automate the mutes on the transposed and untransposed versions. I know that's not elegant, but it works.

The transpose is not a plugin..its a process.
You can't automate it, as far as I know.

Simply select the MIDI notes you want to transpose,
then transpose those using the transpose window.

Hey stubbs. That multi MIDI track idea is where I was proceeding. Thanks for confirming.

Sure think it would be easy for motu to make the non time based ones automatable.

The OP is talking about the insert MIDI FX that are available for MIDI tracks in the mix window.

DP offers both a destructive edit process via the Region Menu, and a "plug-in" process for what is available in those inserts.

This is another potential use for regions, where a plugin or process is applied at the region, rather than the track level.

Well, there IS a MIDI transpose plugin. I use it a lot when layering parallel intervals to create different sound effects.
