DP not recognizing surround plugins

Post by Don T »

Hello DP brain trust,
Well I'm back again with surround mixing problems. I have purchased some Crysonic 5.1 metering, dynamics, EQ plug-ins but DP 9.01 will not let me instatiate them on a 5.1 track or master. DP does recognize the plugs on stereo and mono tracks. I've tried switching to VST to see if that makes a difference, it does not.

The plug-ins do work in 5.1 when I open a project in Adobe Audition or ProTools.

Is anyone mixing in 5.1 using DP?
What's the secret I'm missing? :banghead:

Have you created a 5.1 bundle?

Hello,
Yes I have a 5.1 output and a 5.1 bus. It's the 5.1 tracks, Aux input and master that won't show the plug-ins.
Also I found that a 5.1 send will not open the panner when I click on the "open surround panner" button. Instead it opens the "insert A effects dialog box." If I add an insert into the "A" position then the "open surround panner" button WILL open the send panner. Pretty weird.

Both ProVerb and eVerb show up on 5.1 tracks. BUT, Proverb only receives signal from L & R but outputs to L R Ls Rs. eVerb receives signal from Rs only and outputs to L C R Ls Rs.

I don't have the plugs in question. I did a score/sound design for a feature back in 2008, but no call for it since. It behaved well, but again, your question seems to be specific to your 3rd party plugs... no?

Any chance to contact the developer on this? I'm also wondering if it's possible to route the output to something like Plogue Bidule for processing there? I never did that but I believe it can be done.

I'll try to mess with some 5.a stuff Monday and see if I can look for a smoking gun.

Hello,
Their own plugs don't behave correctly either so it seems to be maybe MOTU and possibly 3rd party. However, the 3rd party plugs work with 5.1 in Audition and PT.

Hello,
Got a reply to my latest tech link, thanks MOTU. Naturally they want me to reinstall DP 9.01 and trash the preferences.
I will comply and reply with the results.

FYI:

I use some of the Waves surround plug-ins, and they work fine in DP.

I wanted to buy and use Iosono's Anymix, which I heard on the ProTools platform and was really impressed, but could not get it to work in DP.

I emailed them and they seemed interested, but never heard back a solution from them.

I think some surround plug-ins must just be incompatible with DP, though I'm not the most technically-minded person, so don't take my word for it.

Hello DPers,
Got a response from MOTU TechLink that they have duplicated my issues and they have passed them up to the development team. Doesn't help me work right now but there's hope on the horizon...........

Wanted to Bump this again. Any word on whether IOSONO AnyMix Pro plugin could be made to work on DP 9 or 10?

I have had a fair bit of trouble getting Waves VST surround plugins to work, which is why i have been using them in AU format. Unfortunately Anymix doesnt seem to come in AU form.
