I've got a Vocal Track I'm working on...
I'm punching in a line after a measure.
I want to hear [of course] the recorded material; but then I want to not hear {me} the vocals playing through the system when I Punch.
I record Vocals without headphones in a room with the speakers playing and the narrow directional microphone pointed away.
So I do not want to hear myself coming through the speakers.
I guess with headphones it wouldn't matter.
I figured there would be a way using "Input monitoring mode"
I feel like I am missing something.
But thus far to achieve this the only way I have found is to create a separate track for the Punch IN.
Then drag it up.
I'd rather figure this out...
Thanks for the help...

Which monitoring mode are you using in DP? Effects play through, or direct hardware?
If it's effects play through, just mute the track that you're recording on.

I figured it out the answer is simple.
Audio Patch Through:
OFF
I'm trying to find the section in the manual that explains Audio Patch Through but haven't found it yet...

Re: Trying to Punch In Vocal, Want not to hear it when I Pun
I've got that answer too: Page 217
The search feature didn't work because "audio patch through" didn't bring anything up...
If someone feels like taking a moment [although I'm sure I could use my imagination and figure it out]
would someone briefly explain the practical uses of the Four Modes of Input Monitoring: i.e.
Auto
Blend
Input Only
Off
Thanks for your time...

Re: Trying to Punch In Vocal, Want not to hear it when I Pun
I've been using DP for 15 years and never changed that setting...lol
I've always used a console for monitoring playback with direct hardware play through enabled.
But yes, I just tried it, and that obviously works too.
As far as your question, you can use "Blend" mode if you want to monitor your input while the armed track audio is still playing. This might be helpful for tight punch in and out situations when self-recording.
Nowadays, punch guard fixes that problem. Auto mode allows you to hear the playback audio but mutes the input until you punch in. Input only. (self explanatory)

Re: Trying to Punch In Vocal, Want not to hear it when I Pun
I think maybe OP doesn't ever want to monitor the input (even in record), as he's got the mic in front of the speakers... ????
