Adding a New Sample Drive

Post by Rick Cornish »

Hi........
I have had all my samples on a 500gB external Thunderbolt SSD. I how have 492gB of content on the drive, so it's time to add another, and I'm planning the move.

My Kontakt and Omnisphere 2 folders are the biggest (215 and 124gB, respectively), so I'm thinking of leaving them where they are and moving MachFive3 (67gB), Play (79gB), Garritan/Finale (3gB) and another 3gB of misc samples.

I believe re-linking MachFive samples will be pretty easy, but I don't know about Play and Finale. Has anyone done this? Any warnings? Horror stories?

Thanks!
Rick Cornish

You can replace the SSD in the housing, too. Street $ on the 850 EVO is around $300 for the 1T and $675 for the 2T.

Didn't know that—will keep it in mind for the future, thanks.

Meanwhile, I already received a second LaCie Rugged All-Terrain, which I somehow got for $100 less than it's now being listed here: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00LF8 ... ge_o03_s00
Not sure if this was a seller mistake or what, but it exactly matches the one I already had, so I should be set for awhile with a matched pair of LaCie external TBolt SSDs.

I was looking at one of those for my wife's 2011 iMac. After installing SSDs into a few 2008- early 2009, iMacs, I finally worked up the confidence to tackle hers and found it even easier. I no longer had the need for the LaCie.

One thing to remember about nearly all externals is that the makers do not manufacture the drives. Those externals offered by known drive suppliers like WD, Seagate etc. are exceptions, of course. Rarely by end of life do my externals contain their original drives – this includes my Time Capsules.
