El Capitan GM Candidate: A-OK with DP 9.01.

Post by Gravity Jim »

I just updated my studio MacPro to the OSX 10.11 ("El Capitan") Golden Master candidate, and the news is good.

I can confirm that Digital Performer 9.01 runs flawlessly under the 10.11 GM (earlier betas worked with my interface, but not with Digital Performer). In fact, it seems to be fine with all my software. If I run into any badness, I'll report it, but so far, it's aces.

YMMV, don't do it without multiple paths home, yards yadda yadda.

even more bleeding edge.. 10.11.1 beta seems great with DP 9.01 too.. just mixed 2 tunes in it. I have to say, for whatever reason, 10.11 breathes new life into my aging 2008 3,1 Mac Pro. In the Activity Monitor, my resting CPU work percentage, went from 7-10% to 1% or less.. Snappy doesn't even start to describe it. It's been DP 3 since it's felt this nice to me. I have had some weirdness with the midiserver process taking up 100% in the Activity Monitor, but I traced it to the midiserver plugin for the RME MADI-FX card.. I'm sure the proper update will fix that (I don't use the RME for MIDI), but for now my MOTU MIDI Express works fine. UAD cards, PACE, iLok all seem to be fine too. I think there's a new Apple Pitch AU with 10.11, but it may have been there all along and I just noticed it. It's just shifts up and down, and it's not pretty, but it's a cool effect on say overheads, makes them sound slowed down. Maybe another successful year of putting off a new Mac Pro?

That's all good news, guys. Thanks.

I wonder if they'll call it El Capitán or El Capitan. It should be the former.

Ok, as long as it works, who cares?
Mac Mini Server i7 2.66 GHs/16 GB RAM / OSX 10.14 / DP 9.52
Tascam DM-24, MOTU Track 16, all Spectrasonics' stuff,
Vienna Instruments SUPER PACKAGE, Waves Mercury, slaved iMac and Mac Minis running VEP 7, etc.

Trust me, it won't be. We don't do accents in English, at least not in the US of A. I could speculate as to why, but it would be cynical and controversial, so I won't.

That's great to hear, as I'm thinking of skipping Yosemite and going straight to El Capitan, given how long my "can't change my computer setup in the middle of album projects" has been going on now (so near the tail end, but also so close to El Capitan at this point).

I'm not sure what the second pronunciation is supposed to sound like; can someone explain?

Maybe it's because I live in California, but I've only ever heard it pronounced El Capitán.

In the 1970s, spelling with the accent was in fashion around here. The City of San Jose made it the official spelling shortly after I moved here in late 1969. I have no idea when they dropped that affectation but one day I noticed that city letterhead no longer had it. Can't do it on my iPad, I notice.

Yes. In fact, that's the correct spelling of the mountain.

I've been asked if I'm interested conducting a production of the Sousa operetta next Summer. Perhaps, we'll see. It's pronounced the same but spelled without the accent.

Hold down the "key" for a moment, and a table of the given letter with its possible diacritical marks usually appears. I just did it in the NotePad; can't promise that will carry over to Safari, but probably so.

Americans don't have accents?
I don't mean to be diacritical,
For it doesn't matter a fracked cent,
But Americans, in the generitical,
Have real trouble with the accent!

Acute, virgule, or pointy housetop-things
Our New World brains at a loss-trophe,
We're still beginners at syllabic-wingdings,
Having yet to master quote and apostrophe.

Excellent. That and gender. Without having mastered either, I wonder what else the english speaking brain can't fathom.

So it's just English speakers with pronunciation and grammatical errors from foreign languages? That's news! In my experience, it is a rare HUMAN, indeed, who grasps the subtle and not to subtle characteristics of speech and the written and spoken word, let alone when to use á æ į ö and ū. And don't forget to NOT pronounce the b in subtle. LØL
