I think I'll be doing this soon as the MOTU MIDI drivers are updated for my MTP/AV USB. That's the only thing I'm hearing isn't going to work correctly right now.Morpheo wrote:DP runs perfectly fine and all my plugins are here. I just opened a project we finished 3 weeks ago to make a few corrections - everything is ok.

Sorry. Yes... it's a popular mod to swap processors on the 4,1 and 5,1. (The 4,1 needs the firmware a special modded firmware update). You can install hex processors on these machines, but I believe with the dual CPU 4,1s [fixed. Thanks HC Markus!] you need to de-lid the CPUs... which is you remove the top part of the metal housing that encases the processor. This so the it's the right height when you reattach the heat sink. There's a topic on this board all about it. It's a great mod. I turned my 4,1 quad core in to a 5,1 hexcore and nearly doubled my GeekBench score. Total cost: about $200 and that was a year ago or more.dewdman42 wrote:de-lidding?
Found the topic. It's rather lengthy, but you'll get all the info there. You might wish to start on the last page and work backwards.

NOTES:
1. De Lid only needed when upgrading DUAL CPU 2009 4,1s. SIngle CPU 4,1s and all 5,1s use standard CPUs. Read the first note in that thread for an overview. Prices are now lower.
2. The earliest AMD GPU that supports Metal is reportedly the 7000 series.

OK, I went through until I found some that I could test. Some are no longer free; others are 32bit – but I already have them working through 32Lives...bayswater wrote:Mike,
Here are a few AUs I have that are free (I'm pretty sure) and are working in 10.10.5/9.01. I don't think any are 32 bit.

TB_ReelBus (I think there are more from toneboosters)
TDR VOS SlickEQ
TDRFeedbackCompressorII
TDRFeedbackCompressorIIMono
Anyway, I found these three: ADT, Poor Plate and RIAA from Vacuumsound:
http://www.nullmedium.de/dev/audioplugins/
They were exactly what I was looking for. Easy to install by dragging them into Library/Audio/Plugins/Components
When I fired up Logic, none crashed the AU authenticator but only RIAA and ADT show up. Poor Plate is nowhere to be found.
In DP 8.07, validation was fine and all three showed up in my AUs.
In both cases, I only played back long enough to determine that they worked. I don't know if I will use them but I can't knock the price. ADT is intriguing and, RIAA sounds good, that will come in handy.
I then tried a few others and all validated in Logic and DP then worked when I applied them.
I don't disbelieve that a problem exists but I haven't experienced one. I will be holding onto my money till the 'all clear' is sounded.

Mike thanks for pursuing this. It's interesting that the warning from other suppliers keep mounting, but the actually problems are not that easy to reproduce.

Yea, a lot of it was repeating what others had sent. Only NI was specific and they wrote that they were testing beta drivers but weren't going to release till after 10.11 shipped.bayswater wrote:Mike thanks for pursuing this. So far, the only real issue I have experienced was my keyboard not toggling the Dashboard correctly. As I was rolling up my sleeves to troubleshoot it, I clicked on Dashboard in the Dock and my keyboard then behaved.
I do believe that Finale is not ready for Prime Time. Likewise, my MTP AV USB does not show up. But there's a MIDI port in my 828mkII if I need it.
Yahoo mail has some issues but those have been happening since the middle of July. I have found workarounds and have iMap working in iOS 9.02 and El Capitan and have posted on the Apple support boards.. I don't know what Yahoo is doing but I need a new mail host. I'm sick of this.

I got fed up with strange things happening in mail services provided by internet access providers a long time ago. I got a hosted domain at ICD who seem to use basic Unix for everything. The email accounts work fine with Apple and Windows mail, and over the years I've given email IDs to a lot a friends and family who had issues with their mail service. I'm sure a lot of other hosts do more or less the same thing.mikehalloran wrote:Yahoo mail has some issues but those have been happening since the middle of July. Are you talking about something like the old Pine mail?

Ah, never mind, then. It was a simple mail solution from the late 1980s / early 1990s. It was a command-driven client, rather than having a GUI like Eudora. If you were traveling around Europe or the rest of the world, Pine was often the most compatible email client for unexpected situations in backwater network nodes. But it's probably ancient history now.bayswater wrote:I don't know what that is.Shooshie wrote:Are you talking about something like the old Pine mail?

I remember when I was using IRIX Pine was the real deal, the true geek tool.Shooshie wrote: Ah, never mind, then. It was a simple mail solution from the late 1980s / early 1990s. I did use the Unix mail command, but somehow never heard of Pine.Shooshie wrote:[Pine was often the most compatible email client for unexpected situations in backwater network nodes. But it's probably ancient history now.
