Can a DP session be opened by Pro Tools?

Post by csiaudio »

I thought I hear that this could be done. Has anyone done this? If so how? Please be specific if able.

Thanks

Really? DP was touted as a front end for PT for years but I don't recall seeing that in a long time.

I've no recollection of the opposite being mentioned. I could be wrong.

In a word, no. I you want to open a DP project (or sequence) in Pro Tools, you first have to export it to a file format PT will recognize, such as OMF or AAF (and vice-versa).

Just did some digging and it wasn't that long ago. According to this page from MOTU: http://www.motu.com/techsupport/technot ... erformer-7
dae mode support went away in DP7.22; no date stamp on this page. Then there's this page: http://avid.force.com/pkb/articles/en_U ... y/en363063 from Avid dated April 26, 2010 wherein it refers to PT8.03 which came out in December 15, 2009 as the first PT (and all versions forward) to no dae support for working with DP or Logic.

Thanks everyone for your input!! I'm going to try the OMF export as suggested and I'll report how it goes.

i always hated the OMF export - could never get it to work properly. So clunky.

AAF is much more reliable.

Good advice. I tried the OMF and it actually did work...slightly. I'll try AAF - thanks!

Pay attention to you settlings. I don't usually have the export compute fades so they can be altered in post if need be.
