I think it's only 'cause of the aggressive sales model that it's still around, Stoivo.

Avoid it like the plague, folks... and CleanMyMac too.

What a coincidence! I get voicemail from a friend today asking if I knew how to "reset" his MacBook. I call him back and guess what? He ran MacKeeper and hosed his MacBook (which was running Snow Leopard) and it won't boot normally... only in safe mode.
Hmmm... Last month I repaired two systems the same way. "It just stopped working" with no other explanation. Since I wasn't there when the problem occurred, I didn't know either.

A clue...

I don't trust MacKeeper or any other programs like it. To me, they could be harvesting (stealing) your data and spying on you while they work their "magic". The Mac doesn't need clean-up programs, generally speaking. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

I guess I should consider myself lucky!! :D :D

I reinstalled D.P.8 and that took care of the 64 bit problem I was having. No other problems have turned up…..yet.

This happens a lot, so there are quite a few articles on how to make sure Mackeeper is removed entirely. Here's one:

Yeah, that'd do it, Stoivo.

FWIMBW to some, the fact that these apps appear in pop-ups associated with porn (and I'm guessing gambling) sites should be a clue as to their value.

Thanks Bayswater! Done. I wasted a little time and a month's subscription ($14.95). Not bad considering other troubleshooting problems I've had in the past.
