VI efficiencies: multiple instantiations or multi-timbral?

Post by MartinBaird »

When using a Virtual Instrument such as NI Kontakt, is it more efficient processor and memory-wise to:
- open one instance of the plugin for each instrument you need to play back
- or to open just one instance of the VI and then load multiple instruments (one per MIDI channel) until you reach the limit of 16?
I seem to remember reading both as being better.
Thanks for your help.
