midifile or Quickscribe file into Finale?

Post by darrell »

I've been writing a piece in DP 8.07, checking/correcting it in Quickscribe, and want to export it to Finale 2014. Doesn't look like Finale cares for midifiles. Will DP export/burn-to-disk a format that will be looked upon favorably by Finale?

Thanks,
Darrell

It's all about your quantize settings in Finale. It should work. Not perfect but not doable.

DP 9 promises MusicXML export for Quickscribe. This will make that task very easy.

The unknowns:

1) How much of the spec will be supported by MOTU? (Finale, Sibelius, SmartScore X2 Pro and others support the full MusicXML spec including expressions and lyrics. SmartScore Lite, bundled with Finale, supports many features but not the full set including lyrics).

2) Will Quickscribe be able to import MusicXML and, if so, at what level? If yes at the full spec, this would be huge for some users – possibly including me.

To Darrell: can you be more specific about your problem? Maybe respond to the thread you started here?

Finale isn't as good at MIDI input as some other programs. Even Encore is better -- always has been. I have been using both since the 1990s.

If I have to import MIDI into Finale, I import into Encore first, save as MusicXML and open in Finale. DP 9 promises to eliminate that middle step.

Thanks guys!! Out of the loop for a few days and couldn't check the board. Turns out Finale does load MIDI-files, I didn't find the procedure til I went to their support page which, by the way, I think is a really good resource.

The import went pretty well, once I figured out their triplet/straight note section.

Thanks for responding!

I think that's why Encore works better for me. Finale is able to quantize to a much finer degree than Encore.
