It works pretty much like the VI rack except that it offers another level of independence and I personally found it more stable.

Actually, I just realized Bidule might do this exact same thing. There's an AU Bidule plugin that I never messed around with before that looks like something similar to how you're describing VEP.

VE Pro is amazing. I use the slaves as templates/sampler, so ALWAYS decouple from DP. Otherwise save times and file sizes on DP get huge.
