How to create a DDP ?

Post by Erawan »

Hello everyone.
I tried to find a topic matching my question but did not seem to find any.
So here it is : is there a way, or a plugin, to create a DDP file inside DP8 ?
Thanks for your answers ;-).

Short answer: no.
You'll need a mastering program with DDP capability, like this one: http://www.dsp-quattro.com/dspquattro/S ... attro.html
Lots of stuff and a recently acquired ability to stop buying

I use DSP Quattro for this day in and day out.
Advice: create a destination folder first for your DDP files, then export.

There are a number of DDP creation programs out there from command line freeware (Unix guys will wonder why you'd want anything else) to programs costing €569.

DSP-Quatro 4.2.4, at $99, not only does DDP mastering but has many other uses as well and has some nice included plugins for audio restoration, time stretching and pitch shifting. There are $49 and $79 crossgrade options as well depending on what you already have. Here's the feature list:
http://www.dsp-quattro.com/dspquattro/S ... tures.html

DSP-Q is still 32bit and Cocoa based. All this means is that a few Carbon based plugins do not work in Mountain Lion and later, same as DP 7.24. Stefano has been working on a 64 bit version but I've not heard when it might be out nor does it bother me. 4.2.4 works great in Mavericks and Yosemite.
DP 11.31; 828mkII FW, micro lite, M4, MTP/AV USB Firmware 2.0.1
2023 Mac Studio M2 8TB, 192GB RAM, OS Sonoma 14.4, USB4 8TB external, M-Audio AIR 192|14, Mackie ProFxv3 6/10/12; 2012 MBPs Catalina, Mojave
IK-NI-Izotope-PSP-Garritan-Antares, LogicPro X, Finale 27.4, Dorico 5.2, Notion 6, Overture 5, TwistedWave, DSP-Q 5, SmartScore64 Pro, Toast 20 Pro

I experience a few minor bugs in Mavericks but I still love the program.
It has really helped my workflow.

I did, too, then discovered I was on 4.2.2. Upgrading to 4.2.4 fixed me up but it's quite likely that I don't use it as intensely as you do.

FWIW, the few times I had to do a DDP, I used Audiofile Engineering Triumph 2.5. Mac only. No problems with the latest mac OS X.

+1 for DSP-Quattro - great app.
Also, just to clarify on another post, if a CD replication plant will accept a DDP file, you should ALWAYS send a DDP file instead of a physical CD-R disc. The DDP file is check summed to verify that all of the data is exactly correct.

For anyone who has trouble remembering what the heck is DDP stands for (though its definition should be fairly obvious from context), check the Acronyms & Abbreviations Commonly Found in Music Discussions post on page 2 of the DP Tips Sheet.

To spare you the suspense as your curiosity grows to the point that you can hardly stand it, almost to the point of being ready to click on the above link, I'll paste in the definition this time. Next time, you're on your own!
Shoosh
  • DDP = Disc Description Protocol: a generic disc image file format commonly used for the transport of mastered audio CD data. Created by Doug Carson Associates (DCA), and also exists in an essentially identical format called CMF. It is the format preferred by replication facilities when submitting data for the replication of thousands or even millions of copies of CD's or DVD's. Standard Definition = DDP 2.0 or 2.1, while HD DVD = DDP 3.0.

Interesting.
I have a hard time picturing doing what I do in DSP-Q within a plug-in environment.
Is anyone here using this?

I do not have this one, but I use the I-EQ on every project. The company really puts out great products. And this plug is only around 60 bucks.

I love Wavelab for many things like mastering jobs and DDP. So darn compatible with about anything. Complex Peak and Loudness LUFS mastering. Not cheap but so much worth it. A total professional solution! Can´t live nor work without it.
