We really need a thread on how to fix the Apple spell checker.

If two regions are Merged together I would think something would need to be added to the name of the new file so that it's different from any other file already existing in the project.
Also, if Pro Tools doesn't like -mg within the file names of a project, that is the fault of Pro Tools, not DP. The characters in -mg are all legal characters for file names in the Mac. Avid needs to fix this problem if it exists.

Name Mangler is the app that helps me with all filename issues.

For the information within files Text Wrangler is the cods.

Personally, the mg, freeze, etc naming gives clarity. When I need to batch rename, Better Finder Renamer is very flexible, both in removing and in adding to the name. It's very fast.
