Re: Manual for Mosaic 1.58
I actually used Mosaic last year. I had some ancient charts that I'd done in Mosaic, and I still have a PowerBook that boots in Classic mode (OS9). After trying to export the files in a format that Sibelius can understand, I determined a few things:
1) It is quicker and easier to redo a chart from scratch than it is to make all the necessary corrections in Sibelius after exporting a MIDI file from Mosaic.
2) The easiest way to get an intact chart out of Mosaic is to take a screenshot of it and print it as a jpg. (My printer won't talk to OS9.)
3) Mosaic is really good at opening and editing Mosaic files, but not much else.
4) Mosaic and OS9 crash. A lot.
Several years back I called tech support to say that my Mosaic key disk wasn't working any more, and MOTU sent me a Mosaic 1.58 installation CD with a new code.
I also have an old PowerBook 540i that I nearly took to electronic recycling last year, but I decided to see if it would boot up...and it did! (And besides Mosaic, it has Crystal Quest on it; perhaps someday I'll have time to play it...no, probably not.)
And somewhere I have floppies with OS 4, 5 and 6.0.7, if anyone needs those.
Now I'll dig out my Mac Plus and find out if it'll boot up, or if I should turn it into a goldfish tank...

Export the .jpg, open it in OS X and convert to .pdf.
You can now open it either in SmartScore X2 Pro or PhotoScore Ultimate that talks to Sibelius. Either way, you can now create a MusicXML file that Sibelius can read.
My understanding is that SSX works better for Finale and PhotoScore Ultimate is better for Sibelius – lite versions are bundled with each. In both cases, the "lite" versions do not support full MusicXML such as expressions and lyrics. The Pro/Ultimate versions do.
I use SmartScore X2 Pro with Finale.

You have to checkout Macintosh Garden if you don't know it already:I still have a PowerBook that boots in Classic mode (OS9).

Re: Manual for Mosaic 1.58
I would NEVER boot Mosaic again, not because it was a bad app, but because going back to OS9 is depressing. And, because those old computers were so slow. And because Mosaic isn't Sibelius, which I use now.
That said, I did create a lot of nice scores in Mosaic, but it was because that's what I had. And it beat the pants off of Professional Composer, the first engraving software for the Mac, and the first high-resolution engraving software, ever.
I found some old scores made in Composer a week or so ago, and they were all pasted up with symbols, slurs, ties, titles, and other text. I had printed up pages of those things, made in MacDraw, mostly, which I cut out with scissors and literally pasted on my score. It made a nice looking score, but the only reason it was acceptable was because the alternative was going back to pen and paper, where transposing the key meant starting over.

I wonder if, in 50 years, people will be booting into OS 7 to 9 the way they like to drive 1960s cars now? I won't be here to find out. Lol

Some spartan, masochistic, self-denial cult would probably get into that. "OH... look at how I have to go up to the arrow to scroll up, and down to the other arrow to scroll down. The pain of moving my wrist that many times is invigorating!"MIDI Life Crisis wrote:I wonder if, in 50 years, people will be booting into OS 7 to 9 the way they like to drive 1960s cars now? Dude, that's because you need a vintage mouse without a scroll wheel. They had them in those days. Good luck finding one!

Hehehe... I still have my hockey puck mouse. Well, it was my daughter's, but when her gorgeous Tangerine iMac bit the dust in a lightning storm, I didn't throw it out.MIDI Life Crisis wrote:Dude, that's because you need a vintage mouse without a scroll wheel. What am I talking about? I have a warehouse FULL of old Macs. I have never thrown one out. Ever! I even have the original 128K Mac with the signatures on the inside.
Shoosh

Re: Manual for Mosaic 1.58
I sold off everything but my old 7500 running OS 7.5.1. Still have about 6 serial super-sized Apple keyboards and a few serial mice. Some SCSI stuff and lord knows what else. Fact is, I do miss my Atari and SMPTE Track. It was the DP of it's day on that machine. Now where did I put that JL Cooper PPS-100?
