DP8 Plug-Ins

Post by Rick Cornish »

Hi.....
I've been watching a pretty decent video on Groove3 on mixing EDM. The author, Timothy Allan, uses Logic and goes to a built-in effect called Bit Crusher a lot to dial down transients. Seems to work really well.

Is there anything like that built in to DP8? (If so, I haven't been able to find it.)
If not, can anyone recommend a third-party plug-in that would accomplish the same thing?

Thanks!

I don't know of anything built in, but there are lots of free options.

http://soundhack.henfast.com/freeware/ (decimate there)

http://kunz.corrupt.ch/products/tal-effects (bitcrusher)

and a great non-free ($19 in a pack with lots of other plugins), but cheap option that comes with other great plugins:

If you want to pay a bit more ($39), for a lot of functionality:

I personally recommend chipcrusher.

Check out Quan Jr in DP8 and previous versions back to I don't know where. From the DP owner's manual:

Quan Jr. is a simple dithering and quantizing plug- in. It is useful if you want to use the dithering features of MasterWorks Limiter, but do not need the extra features and added overhead. This is especially important for mixing in surround if you are running low on CPU power.
Quan Jr. also makes a handy low resolution effects generator. Turn off dithering and set the quantization to three or four bits and get ready for some grunge.
