32 Lives Vs JBridgeM

Post by Babz »

Seems like most people are using 32 Lives nowadays, but everyone used to use JBridgeM. Why?

Could someone explain the differences (pros/cons) between the two products? Is there anything better about using 32 Lives? I notice it is considerably more expensive.

Thx,
Babz

jbridgeM is for VST plugins, 32Lives is for AU. If you are going to buy one, you might as well buy 32 Lives since it can work with other hosts like mainstage and Logic, while JbridgeM only works with hosts that support VST.

Beyond that I don't have much experience with JbridgeM, but I can say that 32Lives works awesomely and worth every penny.

In a nutshell.

The VSTs that I converted with JBridge eventually updated to 64bit so I have no use for it anymore. The MDA freeware is caught in the Cocoa/Carbon issue so, even though you can hear them, there's no GUI to tweak.

Since DP has used AUs for a long time, 32Lives lets you use many of those old plugs that never did (or never will) go to 64bit. Interestingly, the MDA AU still works in 32Lives and isn't bothered by the Cocoa/Carbon issue (I'll be replacing it in older projects but now I can do so in DP 8 instead of DP 7.24 and am in no hurry). There are still some cool plugins that aren't yet 32bit.

32Lives needs to be v1.05 or later to work in Yosemite. For some reason, when I downloaded a few weeks ago, I got 1.03 which didn't work properly.

Because 32Lives wasn't around at first. jBridgeM was. It was way cheaper, and it worked for me.

Some plugs are both VST and AU. That's the same reason I bought JBridgeM first.

FWIW, I just picked up 32 Lives on recommendation from remixer Timothy Allan (along with the positive reviews here) so I could use s(M)exoscope and a couple other 32-bit goodies that will never make it to 64. Has worked flawlessly and transparently thus far. I think it's a really solid bit of code.
