Not yet! I treat Mainstage as a standalone VI and use the usual routing tricks (Jack, Soundflower, CueMix) to get the audio to DP. Mainstage can also operate at crazy low buffer rates, so latency is rarely an issue.

DP should really include a mini version of MachFive.

And the thing about M5-3 is, in a word: IRCAM. That in a standalone app will cost almost as much.

DP should have Mach5 and IRCAM built in. I've been wanting that a long time.

Yup. I love how Shooshie keeps beating that drum at the appropriate opportunities.

I'm 100% with you guys. I'm certain MOTU would've heard our faint pleas by now. Surely.

A live-style, point-and-click, drag-and-drop pitch / time engine incorporating IRCAM would blow everyone away, including prospective buyers, especially given that MOTU would implement it with its own inimitable elegance...

Thanks for all of these replies everyone. Most illuminating.

By IRCAM, are you referring to L'Ircam (Institut de Recherche et Coordination Acoustique/Musique) founded by Pierre Boulez?

I will check out the UVI workstation in the short term, but in the end, I will probably smash the piggy bank for MC5 after all.

Thanks for the Sweetwater tip!

Yes. IRCAM have a standalone app for the technology, and that tech is built into MachFive.

It's definitely worth it, and Sweetwater tends to be knowledgeable about MOTU and DP.

Just my 2 cts: If you already own Reason, NNXT is a deep sampler which does work fine with DP thru Rewire. It has a nice multi-layers feature and some filter and modulation abilities.
Of course, not as deep as the ones found in Alchemy, Absynth or Iris, but worth a try.

I kind of missed some of this thread.

I have Mainstage 3 and do think it is one of the best deals out there for a VI and live sound rig.

I only tried routing it into DP one time and did have some latency issues, but I know this has been covered exhaustively in other threads.

It sounds like others have had good luck getting MIDI out of DP into MS3 and audio out of MS3 back to DP. But could someone confirm that this works well? In what OS versions?

Thanks.

Oh and a big fat +1 for Mach5 and IRCAM built-into DP!!

Not exactly an answer to your question, but maybe relevant. I was able to get this working with DP 7 and MS 2, using DP Inter-application MIDI and Soundflower. But I was not able to get the different MIDI channels to address different MS instrument channels. All MIDI played all instruments. I went later to DP 8.07 and Logic 9.1x and got the same thing.

After much back and forth at LUG, I created an Environment layer to split the MIDI by channel (which in principle should not have been necessary -- I never figured out why I had to do it) and that solved the problem. Probably you wouldn't be able to use that fix in MS.

This worked in OS 10.8.5 -- it was stable and quite efficient. I used it a lot to play the EXS-24 version of Kirk Hunter strings in a DP project. Some amount of MIDI timing adjustment in DP was necessary. I haven't tried it yet in 10.10.2 and Logic X.1 with DP 8.07 but will soon.

I doubt I'll try this in MS3. Is there anything it does that Logic 10 doesn't?

Reason has 2 very good samplers - one simple , one complex. What more do you need ? DP has the nano sampler which is even simpler if limited.
