Yosemite & Old Plug-Ins

Post by Dark Goob »

Has anyone had any issues with older plug-ins and virtual instruments working on OS X 10.10 with DP8? For example the Native Instruments Pro-53 virtual analog synthesizer was discontinued years ago, but I have hundreds of hours of projects based on that plug. I'd like to know if anyone has run into issues around projects that fail to open on 10.10 due to old plug-ins.

(I know I'll have to run DP8 in 32-bit mode to use older plug-ins, and I'm OK with that.)

I'm using some very old 32 bit plug-ins with 32 Lives and they're working just fine. Others are not. I think it all depends on the plug-in.

32 Lives works with a lot of 32bit AUs in DP 8 64bit. There's a demo.

I have had some success with a few plugs that stopped working in 32bit and ML or later. That was a pleasant surprise.

There are many old threads on 32 Lives. Use Advanced Search to find them.

I had about 10 of roughly 500 plugins not work when I updated to Yosemite. These worked in Mountain Lion when DP 8 was running 64 bit. They were all old free plugins of no importance I had never used, so I didn't bother looking for updates for them. All of the the other plugins I ever use, and all those that cost something, work in Yosemite.

I tried jBriderM with Yosemite, and I'm pretty sure it worked, but once Sampletank 3 came out, I no longer had nothing of any importance that is not updated to 64 bit, so I'm not using it any more.
