Thanks for posting that video James. I wasn't able to make it down this year and I was happy to be able to see the yearly MOTU DP presentation thru your camera. Man, that Music XML support is gonna help me out so much as I make the bulk of my living doing orchestration and notation work and this will be extremely helpful. Also the automation lanes, project info and spectral view look great, and the UA 1176 emulation will be very useful. I think it's very smart of MOTU to include MX4 bundled with the new version and I hope they might include something like a Mach V Lite or even just a light version of their Symphonic Instrument. I think so many DP users are doing orchestral mock-ups and including a set of symphonic instruments would give it a good competitive edge. A constant argument I get from Logic users is that DP doesn't have enough sound library content so I think this move to include MX4 ( a really powerful synth, btw) is a good step forward. I'm curious to see what else will be offered for DP9- it seems like they have more ideas up their sleeves!

I don't understand at all what 'how Logic handles regions' has to do with there being an optional absolute grid. I must really be missing something here.

Regions/objects and the grid is a symbiotic relationship. Unless I'm completely misunderstanding what you mean by a grid, absolute or not. Regions contain data that goes on the grid, whether it be MIDI, audio, or automation. How could I discuss one without the other?

Would really like a DSD 11.2 mhz based multitrack system in DP. That I would pay up for myself. The other notations features need to explain more on articulations importing from Sibelius before I get excited.

Has there been any mention of what version of OSX DP9 will run on? From what I saw Magic Dave in the NAMM video was running an iTrashcan Mac Pro which more likely than not has some version of Yosemite. I have OSX 10.8.5 and OSX 10.9.5 in separate boot partitions on my iMac. Had OSX 10.10.2 and it was so unstable running ProTools 11.3.9 I wiped that boot partition out. DP 8.07 has been running just fine in the 10.9.5 partition and if I can stay away from Yosemite I'll be happy.

That day will probably come.

There are apps that no longer run unless it is 10.7.5 or later (notably TurboTax 2014), others that require 10.8.2, still others that require 10.9.5 (Logic Pro X, Pro Tools 12).

It doesn't matter that 10.6.8 runs 64bit apps. There are those that require the functionality of later OS and, if DP 9 is one of them, there it is.

TurboTax 2014 runs on a Core Duo processor. It may be the last version that does. I'm fairly certain that when it requires a later OS, it will affect more people than the user base of DP, PT and Logic Pro combined. This will not stop Intuit from pushing forward when the time comes as they have a long history on this issue.

I doubt DP9 will not be compatible with Mountain Lion.

We'll soon find out. But...

There is probably more of a risk of having to upgrade to 10.10 if you are a Logic Pro X user as the latest editions of both Final Cut and Motion require 10.10.2, so the next iteration of Logic could also make that leap. That said, currently Apple's Logic Pro X officially requires a minimum of 10.9, so unless there is some technical reason for requiring Yosemite, DP9 on Mavericks is probably not going to be an issue.

I'd consider calling tech support and asking MOTU directly. They might be willing to tell you.

Either ML or Mavericks and I'll be happy. I know from past experience DP tends to run on way old operating systems. Somehow I can't see MOTU not supporting either of those two although I'd speculate Lion would not be supported.
